Replace Your Engine Air Filter At Guy’s Automotive

Filed under: Engine Air Filter — guysautomo647 @ 4:40 pm

Tampa Car Advice

When driving around Tampa, your pickup engine needs clean air to burn the fuel – and it needs a lot. In fact, a typical vehicle needs about 216,000 gallons of air for every tank of gas.

All that air passes through a filter that catches the dust and dirt. Eventually the filter gets completely full. Because the filter can only hold so much, dirt starts getting through. This dirty air passes through the mass airflow sensor, and starts to accumulate on the delicate sensor element. The mass air flow sensor measures how much air is getting into your engine. When the airflow reading is incorrect, your pickup engine doesn’t get the proper amount of fuel. It runs rough and doesn’t perform as well as it should.

Eventually, the sensor is so damaged it needs to be replaced – which is pricy. In fact you could buy a case or two of air filters for the cost of a sensor replacement.

Of course, that dirty air keeps on going through to your pickup engine where it’s burned along with the fuel, which dirties up your combustion chamber and increases harmful exhaust emissions – not a good thing for Tampa air quality, not to mention our lungs.

When your personable Guy’s Automotive service advisor brings out your dirty air filter and recommends a replacement, remember the cost and poor performance that can be waiting for you down the road if you neglect this simple Guy’s Automotive service. Ask your Guy’s Automotive advisor if it’s time to replace your engine air filter.

PCV Valve Replacement At Guy’s Automotive

Today’s Carrollwood car care article focuses on PCV valve replacement. The PCV valve is a little, inexpensive part that does a big job for your pickup. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

The crankcase is the bottom area of the engine that holds the oil. When the pickup engine’s running, fuel is burned to generate power. Most of the exhaust from combustion goes out through the exhaust system. But some exhaust blows by the pistons and goes into the lower engine, or crankcase.

These hot gases are about seventy percent unburned fuel. This can dilute and contaminate the oil, leading to damaging engine oil sludge. It can also cause engine corrosion in your pickup. PCV Valve Replacement At Guy's AutomotiveAt high speeds, the pressure can build up to the point that gaskets and seals start to leak.

Carrollwood car owners need to know that over time, the vented gases will gum up the PCV valve and it won’t work well. That can lead to all of the problems I’ve already described, oil leaks, excessive oil consumption and wasted gas.

Fortunately, it’s very easy to test the PCV valve and quick and inexpensive to replace it at Guy’s Automotive. Even so, it’s often overlooked because many Carrollwood drivers don’t know about it.

Check your pickup owner’s manual or ask your Guy’s Automotive advisor. If this is the first time you’ve heard of a PCV valve, you might be in line for a PCV valve replacement.

Please ask us about your PCV valve. For the price of a couple of burger combo meals, you can avoid some very expensive deep engine repairs.

Why Tampa Drivers Need To Change Their Transmission Fluid

change transmission fluid

It’s easy for Tampa auto owners to forget about servicing their transmission because it doesn’t need it very often, but proper transmission service keeps your pickup running smoothly and helps you avoid costly repairs down the road.

The transmission undergoes a lot of stress. The grit you see in used fluid is actually bits of clutch material. This grit flowing through your transmission under pressure eats away at seals and gaskets which can lead to leaks.

The transmission operates at very high temperatures – about a hundred degrees higher than engine temperatures. Those high temperatures eventually cause the transmission fluid to start to break down and lose efficiency. At best, your pickup transmission won’t operate smoothly. At worse, it could lead to costly damage.

When your transmission’s running properly, it transfers more power from your pickup engine to the drive wheels, and improves gas mileage. That’s why auto makers recommend you change transmission fluid at regular intervals. Your pickup owner’s manual has a schedule for transmission service and, of course, your personable Guy’s Automotive service advisor can tell you what the manufacturer recommends.

Your Tampa service center may be able to perform a transmission service while you wait and the cost is quite reasonable. Actually, it’s downright cheap when you think about how much a major transmission repair can cost!

Wheel Alignment Service At Guy’s Automotive In Tampa

Wheel Alignment Service At Guy's Automotive In Tampa

When all of a vehicle’s wheels are lined up exactly with each other, your wheels are in alignment. Hitting a road hazard in Tampa or even just the normal bumps and bounces of everyday FL driving can cause your pickup wheels to be out of alignment. This can lead to expensive premature tire and suspension wear.

Here are some alignment basics from Guy’s Automotive:
The first angle is called toe: do the wheels point in towards each other or away from each other at the front of the tire.
The next angle is called camber: do the wheels tip in or out at the top.
And finally, there is castor. Castor measures the angle where the front axles attach to the vehicle.

The ideal alignment for your pickup was designed by its engineers. Guy’s Automotive alignment service starts with an inspection of the steering and suspension – so see if anything’s bent, broken or worn out. Then the Guy’s Automotive technician will look at tire condition. From there, the pickup is put on an alignment rack and an initial alignment reading is taken. The wheels are then aligned to manufacturer’s specifications.

Your owner’s manual probably has a recommendation for how often your pickup alignment should be checked – usually every couple of years. If you suspect an alignment problem with your pickup, get it checked at Guy’s Automotive before you suffer expensive tire or suspension damage.

The Maintenance Mindset: Full-Service Oil Change At Guy’s Automotive

Full-Service Oil Change Tampa

Tampa people generally accept that many things in life require regular maintenance: their teeth, clothes, yards and so on, but FL car owners often don’t apply the idea of maintenance to their vehicles.

If you never brush your teeth or go to the dentist, you’ll become painfully aware of your neglect when you get a big cavity. Once the damage is done, we learn our key lesson and start to take better care of things.

Unfortunately, Tampa people too often learn the hard automotive lesson when they bring their vehicle to Guy’s Automotive on a tow truck. So many times, a little routine maintenance would have prevented a steep breakdown.

So how do Tampa car owners get into the habit of taking care of their pickups? It’s so easy to forget; not like cutting the grass which you see it every time you pull in the driveway.

Here’s something that will help: The key to good pickup maintenance starts with the oil change. Think about it – when you go in for a full-service oil change in Tampa, your personable Guy’s Automotive technician will check all your fluids. If one of them is low, he can look for the reason why. If your serpentine belt is worn, he’ll see it and let you know. Corroded battery cable – they’ve got you covered. And they’ll check to see if your manufacturer has recommended any key services at your current mileage.

The oil change becomes kind of a focal point, a way to check in to see what needs to be done.

The fact is that vehicle inspection surveys consistently reveal that over 80% of vehicles have one or more unperformed repair or maintenance service. Vehicles are generally very reliable and can take a lot of abuse and neglect – but you can only press your luck so long.

So when you come into Guy’s Automotive for an oil change, you get a visual inspection of your car and a reminder for recommended services so you can avoid a total failure. And remember that your technician can help you work out a maintenance and repair plan for your pickup, prioritizing and scheduling the work to make sure you and your family are safe, and avoid expensive breakdowns.

In addition to full-service oil changes, at Guy’s Automotive we also offer cabin air filter, chassis lubrication and PCV valve replacement.
