Monday 24th June 2013 - Initial works on the Luas Cross City project will begin during this week. The works are in preparation for the utility diversion works which will start later in the year.
These cellar works do not require significant traffic changes and access to premises and car parks will be maintained throughout. There may be localised curtailment or movement of kerbside parking and some disruption to traffic however there will be no diversions of any traffic. The works will begin on Marlborough St. and Dominick St. followed by Dawson St., Westmoreland St. and Parnell St.
Dublin Bus services will continue to operate as normal during construction. The works will locate, and where necessary infill, cellars which may be under footpaths and road ways along the route.
Gráinne Mackin, Director of Communications for the Luas Cross City project said, “While these works signal the beginning of the project, it’s important that everyone knows that the streets will remain open to all commuters, shoppers, traffic and pedestrians.”

The Luas Cross City Project has appointed Gráinne Mackin to the role of Director of Communications. Ms. Mackin is a senior communications professional with experience in both the public and private sectors. Recently she held the role of Head of Group Communications in Aviva Ireland and prior to that she worked as Head of Communications and Brand PR for Diageo Ireland.
Gráinne has considerable knowledge of the public transport sector as she was Head of Communications for Dublin Bus between 2002 and 2006.
This is a joint appointment by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Dublin City Council. The NTA is the central coordinating agency with responsibility for all transport providers in the Dublin urban area, including the oversight of the Luas Cross City project and its funding.
Gráinne will be responsible for the overall strategic communications aspects of the Luas Cross City project and will work closely with the RPA who are delivering the project. The Luas Cross City project will commence in June 2013 and it is expected to be fully operational during 2017 at an estimated cost of €368m. The 5.6km cross city project is one of the largest infrastructural capital investment projects currently being undertaken by the Government. It will see passenger journeys increase by over 10 million and over 800 jobs will be created during the construction stage.

The Phibsborough Stop will be located within the former Broadstone railway cutting between North Circular Road and Cabra Road and will have lateral platforms. Access to the platform level will be provided from both North Circular Road and Cabra Road via stairs and lifts from the new deck levels abutting the existing road overbridges. This stop will serve the existing residential communities and facilitate interchange with bus services on North Circular Road and Cabra Road.

Works Info
Luas Cross City works will start in a number of other areas in June 2013 and will continue until 2017. Works will be carefully managed to minimise inconvenience and disruption while making steady progress towards completion and the launch of passenger services.
Luas Cross City construction works have not yet started in the Phibsborough area.
As there are no cellar investigation and backfilling works, heritage works or utility diversion works required in this area the first works to be carried out in the area will be main infrastructure works which will focus on laying track, building stops and providing access to them and erecting overhead cables.
We will provide more information on works in this area as contracts are signed and timing and other details are worked out.
