Proud to be a Fair Food Member
Written by Administrator Monday, 10 June 2013 12:14

Here at Kimberton Whole Foods when we say we aim to build strong cooperative ties within our larger community we mean it!  That’s why we’re members of the Fair Food Philly movement.   Fair Food’s mission strongly aligns with our own: “[Fair Food is] dedicated to bringing locally grown food to the marketplace and to promoting a humane, sustainable agriculture system for the Greater Philadelphia region.”

Fair Food was founded by local entrepreneur Judy Wicks in 2001.  While working at her restaurant, The White Dog Café, she realized that she could further help her local economy by spreading the local purchasing model her restaurant followed to other chefs in the area.  Together with Ann Karlen, current director of Fair Food, she began connecting local farmers with local chefs, while continually building a network of sustainability.  Today the organization consists of a broad range of buyers and producers, bringing locally grown and raised food to institutions across Greater Philadelphia.

Every year Fair Food works with Grid Magazine to release a Local Food Guide.  This year marks its 10th anniversary!  This guide provides a cohesive list of Farmers’ Markets, CSAs, Restaurants, Retailers, Artisans, and more.
