Matt Smith to star in Ryan Gosling's How To Catch A Monster

Doctor Who set to head up Gosling’s directorial debut

Ryan Gosling’s How To Catch A Monster looks to have secured its leading man, with Doctor Who star Matt Smith set to sign on for the star’s directorial debut.

Smith will line up alongside Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes, with the latter another recent addition to the steadily growing ensemble.

The film will follow Hendricks’ single mother as she finds herself drawn into a weird fantasy world when her son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater city.

That’s about as far as it goes in terms of plot details, and there are no indicators as to what sort of character Smith will be playing. Whatever it turns out to be, it’s certainly a massive break for an actor who is best known for his work on the small screen.

Co-starring Ben Mendelsohn and Rob Zabrecky, How To Catch A Monster will be released some time in 2014, with an official date to be confirmed.
