Application

A completed and signed application form accompanied by a A$500 deposit (which is part-payment of the fee for in-Shanghai expenses) and all relevant evidentiary and permission documents must be submitted by Wednesday 29 August 2012.

Please ensure you read the Student Information Booklet prior to completing the application form and please note that deposit payments will only be refunded if your application is unsuccessful or in the event that the Winter School is cancelled.

A maximum of 65 students will be accepted into the program and applicants are strongly urged to submit applications without delay to avoid disappointment. Preference is given to University of Sydney law students and then to cross-institutional law students. Non-degree and non-law applications are considered only if space permits. Late applications may be considered if places in the program remain available and are processed on a strictly first-come-first-served basis.

Cross-institutional applicants are advised to contact their home institution to confirm that the Winter School can be credited to their degree. Students are required to obtain written permission from their home institution before applying to Sydney Law School and paying the non-refundable deposit.

Enrolment at Sydney Law School

Students will enrol in one of the following units of study depending on their enrolment status:

  • LAWS3068 CHINESE LAWS AND CHINESE LEGAL SYSTEMS (6 credit points)
    This unit is available to University of Sydney and cross-institutional undergraduate students.
  • LAWS3014 CHINESE LAWS AND CHINESE LEGAL SYSTEMS (8 credit points)
    This unit is available to cross-institutional undergraduate and Juris Doctor students only.
  • LAWS5368 CHINESE LAWS AND CHINESE LEGAL SYSTEMS (6 credit points)
    This unit is available to University of Sydney and cross-institutional Juris Doctor students.
  • LAWS6001 CHINESE LAWS AND CHINESE LEGAL SYSTEMS (12 credit points)
    This unit is available to postgraduate students only.
Undergraduate students from the University of Sydney

University of Sydney undergraduate students undertaking the Winter School will enrol in LAWS3068 which is offered as a summer session unit for 2012. Students should enrol in a standard load in Semester Two, 2012, in addition to LAWS3068.

Your enrolment will be finalised by undergraduate student administration once you have paid the in-Shanghai fee in full. The due date for payment is Wednesday 3 October 2012. Payment can be made by credit card or by cheque or money order made payable to the University of Sydney. Cash payments are not accepted. If you elect to defer your tuition fee payment using FEE-HELP (eligible students only), a completed Request for FEE-HELP Assistance form must also be submitted by this date. If you elect, or are required, to pay your tuition fee upfront, you must ensure payment is made in full prior to the commencement of the program.

Undergraduate cross-institutional students

Undergraduate cross-institutional students will enrol in either LAWS3068 or LAWS3014. Cross-institutional students are required to obtain written permission from their home institution and must also provide a current academic transcript at the time of application. Further information regarding the supporting documentation required at the time of application is available here and on the application form.

Your enrolment will be finalised by undergraduate student administration once you have paid the in-Shanghai fee in full. The due date for payment is Wednesday 3 October 2012. Payment can be made by credit card or by cheque or money order made payable to the University of Sydney. Cash payments are not accepted. Juris Doctor students

University of Sydney and cross-institutional JD students will enrol in LAWS5368. Cross-institutional JD students may enrol in the 8 credit point undergraduate elective unit LAWS3014 instead of LAWS5368 providing they have permission to do so from their home institution.

Your enrolment will be finalised by student administration once you have paid the in-Shanghai fee in full. The due date for payment is Wednesday 3 October 2012. Payment can be made by credit card or by cheque or money order made payable to the University of Sydney. Cash payments are not accepted. If you elect to defer your tuition fee payment using FEE-HELP (eligible students only), a completed Request for FEE-HELP Assistance form must also be submitted by this date. If you elect, or are required, to pay your tuition fee upfront, you must ensure payment is made in full prior to the commencement of the program.

Postgraduate students

Postgraduate students enrol in LAWS6001 CHINESE LAWS AND CHINESE LEGAL SYSTEMS which is offered as a 2012 late intensive unit. Enrolments will be processed by postgraduate student administration. Students will not be able to enrol online.

Successful applicants will be required to complete an enrolment variation request form and lodge it with postgraduate student administration to finalise your enrolment (Master of International Business and Law students will need to contact the University of Sydney Business School).

Please note that you will be required to pay your tuition fee as soon as you have received notification from the University that your enrolment has been finalised.

The in-Shanghai fee is payable by Wednesday 3 October 2012. Payment can be made by credit card or by cheque or money order made payable to the University of Sydney. Cash payments are not accepted.

Postgraduate cross-institutional students please note that in addition to submitting an application form for the Shanghai Winter School, you must also apply for admission to Sydney Law School. Domestic postgraduate cross-institutional students must apply online for admission to the University. Postgraduate students please note that results may not be released until May 2013 so you may not be able to graduate until Semester Two, 2013 if this is your final unit of study.
