Women (Plus)

Note: The vest is stretchy and roomy and will fit a range of sizes. The Women's size should fit S (M, L) and Plus size should fit 1X (2X, 3X) comfortably.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

Bust 37 1/2 (49 1/2)"/95.5 (125.5)cm, including edging

GAUGE

In Coil Stitch pattern, using larger hook, 4 pattern repeats and 13 rows = 5"/12.5cm;

In double crochet, using smaller hook, 5 sts and 3 rows = 1"/2.5cm.

SPECIAL TERMS

Coil st: Coil stitch—Yarn over, insert hook in next ch-space and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), [yarn over, insert hook in same ch-space and draw up a loop] twice (7 loops on hook), [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 6 times.

FPdc: Front-post double crochet—Yarn over, insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, complete as dc.

BPdc: Back-post double crochet—Yarn over, insert hook from back to front and then to back again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, complete as dc.

 

NOTES

1. Back and fronts are worked from side to side.

2. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color.

 

BACK

With larger hook and A, ch 75.

Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first hdc), *ch 3, sk next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch; repeat from * across, turn—38 hdc, and 18 ch-3 sp.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), hdc in next hdc, *Coil st in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across, turn—18 Coil sts.

Row 3: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat Row 3 until back measures 18 1/2 (24 1/2)"/47 (62)cm. Fasten off.

 

FRONT (make 2)

With larger hook and A, ch 75.

Rows 1 and 2: Work Rows 1 and 2 of back—18 Coil sts.

Plus Size only: Work Row 3 of back 8 times.

Shape Lower Edge

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, Coil st in last ch-2 sp, ch 2, sc in next hdc, turn; leave last hdc unworked.

Row 2: Ch 2, sk first sc, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2, hdc in next hdc, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, Coil st in last ch-2 sp, sc in last hdc, turn.

Shape Neck

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first 2 hdc, sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next Coil st, hdc in next 2 hdc, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, Coil st in last ch-2 sp, ch 2, sc in next hdc, turn; leave remaining sts unworked—14 Coil sts.

Row 2: Ch 2, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, turn; leave remaining sts unworked—13 Coil sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 hdc, sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next Coil st, hdc in next 2 hdc, *Coil st in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in next 2 hdc; repeat from * across to last ch-2 sp, Coil st in last ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in last hdc, turn—12 Coil sts.

FRONT AND NECK EDGING

With smaller hook and B, ch 6.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first dc) dc in each ch across, turn—5 dc.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc here and throughout), *FPdc around next dc, dc in next dc; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as first dc here and throughout), *BPdc around next dc, dc in next dc; repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 49 (50)"/124.5 (127)cm. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

 

ARMHOLE EDGING (make 2)

With smaller hook and C, ch 4. Work same as front and neck edging until piece measures 15 (18)"/38 (45.5)cm. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

 

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams. Place markers 8 (9 1/2)"/20.5 (24)cm below shoulder seams on fronts and back. Pin and sew side seams from lower edge to markers. With RS together, match mid-point of front and neck edging to mid-point of back neck. Easing front and neck edging to fit, sew front and neck edging to front edges and across back neck edge. Fold armhole edging in half and sew short ends together. With RS together, match mid-point of armhole edging to shoulder seam. Easing to fit, sew armhole edging to armhole edge. Repeat around other armhole.

Lower Edging

With RS facing and smaller hook, join B with sl st in lower corner of front edging, to work across lower edge.

Row 1: Working across edging, [ch 3, sk next dc, sl st in next dc] twice ; working in ends of rows across lower edge and spacing sts approximately 1/2"/1.5cm apart, work [ch 3, sl st in end of next row] 93 (121) times across lower edge working last sl st in first dc of other end of lower edging; working across edging, [ch 3, sk next dc, sl st in next dc] twice, turn—97 (125) ch-3 sp.

Row 2: Ch 3, sl st in first ch-3 sp, *ch 5, sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * across, turn—48 (62) ch-5 sp, and 49 (63) ch-3 sp.

Row 3: Sl st in first ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in next ch-5 sp, *ch 7, sk next ch-3 sp, sl st in next ch-5 sp; repeat from * across to last ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in last ch-3 sp and change to C, turn—47 (61) ch-7 sp.

Row 4: Change to larger hook, with C, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), sk first ch-3 sp, (hdc, Coil st) in next ch-7 sp, *ch 2, (hdc, Coil st) in next ch-7 sp; repeat from * across to last ch-3 sp, hdc in last ch-3 sp, turn—47 (61) Coil sts.

Row 5: Change to smaller hook, ch 3, sl st in first ch-2 sp, *ch 3, sl st in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, sl st in same ch-2 sp; repeat from * across to last Coil st, ch 3, sl st in sp between last Coil st and last hdc, turn—94 (122) ch-3 sp.

Row 6: Sl st in first ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, sl st in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * across to last ch-3 sp, ch 3, sl st in last ch-3 sp, turn—46 (60) ch-5 sp, and 47 (61) ch-3 sp.

Row 7: Repeat Row 3 and change to A in last st—45 (59) ch-7 sp.

Row 8: With A, repeat Row 4—45 (59) Coil sts. Fasten off.

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
