    PC Gamer UK Indie issue

Confined on the cover of this month’s issue, a crim with a dark past, a cold-eyed con, an orange outlaw with a rebellious streak that can’t be tamed – it’s Prison Architect! This month’s issue is devoted to celebrating the wit and inventiveness of indie development in all its many and varied forms. We go inside Introversion to uncover the story behind their prison-building sim, round up the most exciting upcoming indie games, cover 50 fantastic free games that you can play right now and still find space to review the latest releases, go on more adventures in Now Playing, and cover the hottest hardware.

What’s more, this month you’ll get Introversion’s entire back catalogue for free. That’s four games worth £12 in total including Uplink, Defcon, Darwinia and Multiwinia. The issue should be with subscribers now, but will hit corporeal and digital shelves on Thursday, where you’ll be able to buy it via the App Store, Google Play or Zinio. If you prefer, you can subscribe to get each issue delivered to your door. Read on to discover what else we’ve trapped within the pages of issue 256.

Garrett is back! Yes, there he is, Batmanning his way up a wall on the cover of PC Gamer UK issue 255. Is this Thief a worthy successor to the much-loved originals? Graham slipped on his best thievin’ gloves and played Eidos Montreal’s new take on the classic robbery sim, and then slipped on his best velvet writing gloves to pen this month’s six page cover feature. The soft roar of beleaguered keyboards filled PC Gamer towers this month as the staff united to forge our list of the 100 greatest games of all time. There was controversy, mild mannered discussion, tea-drinking, more discussion, sagely nodding and then a blaze of word-making. Will you agree with the list? Perhaps. But, more importantly, it’s sixteen pages of passionate writing celebrating the best games ever made.

That’s just a fraction of what’s inside the latest issue, of course. We’ve got loads of previews, reviews, features and tech coverage, which you can find out about below. The issue is available now via the App Store, Google Play or Zinio. If you prefer, you can subscribe to get each issue delivered to your door. This month’s issue also comes with a free game, a spiritual successor to Deus Ex, Project Snowblind, worth £4. Read on for a closer look at the cover and a list of what to expect from issue 255.

    PCG254 July issue

Dota 2′s Windrunner leads the charge on our cover this month in PC Gamer UK issue 254. We visited Bellevue to get inside development at Valve HQ as the Dota community prepares for The International tournament and Dota 2′s long-awaited launch. Dota can be baffling to the uninitiated, but with a bit of knowledge anyone can enjoy the spectacle, chaos and depth of competitive play. That’s why, in addition to our six page preview, we’ve created a six page guide to watching Dota 2 that will help demystify this fast-moving and famously complex esport.

But that’s not all, of course. We’ve also taken an early look at The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, revisited some of the great old sim games kept alive by their amazing communities and put to paper Rich and Graham’s two-year 300+ game Fifa rivalry. That’s as well as our normal brace of previews, reviews and more. The issue is available now via the App Store, Google Play or Zinio. If you prefer the weight of a glossy tome in your hands, you can subscribe to get each issue delivered to your door. Read on to find out what else lies within.

    PCG253 June issue

What a scowl! There are only two ways to hone a scowl like that. A) browse the Daily Mail for 15 seconds or B) take a leadership position in the Red Army in Stalingrad during World War 2. The gentleman on our cover this month represents the latter, having just emerged angry and sweaty from the ballistic single player campaign for Company of Heroes 2. We’ve played it for five hours and can’t wait to tell you all about it in our six page preview. We’re also gifting readers codes for Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor, the standalone expansion for Company of Heroes 1 worth £10.

There’s lots more inside of course. This month we’ve also got a first-hand account of what it’s like to run a clan from our man John Strike. Rich strains his sanity as he delves even deeper into Dark Souls, we get an early peek at Amnesia: Machine for Pigs and much more besides. So much more that I’m going to give in and just put it in a nice readable list for you below. The issue is available now via the App Store, Google Play or Zinio. If you prefer your words scored into pulp, you can subscribe to get each issue delivered to your door.

The barbrous Hoary McCrabFist joins a couple of glowing mages on our May cover as we delve into the curious world of veteran MMO, Runescape. Over its twelve year history, Runescape has vaulted the 2D/3D divide, amassed zillions of players and fostered a diverse and passionate community, and all from an internet browser. In this month’s MMO special, we visit developers Jagex to gain an insight into the game’s past and discuss their plans for the future.

Some MMO devs would give their left arm (to a crab) for Runescape’s longevity. The Elder Scrolls Online faces a tricky challenge reconciling the Scrolls fans’ RPG expectations with the MMO format, but Zenimax Online Studios also have their own ideas for pushing the genre forward as we discover in our six page preview feature.

Not into MMOs? Fear not. We’ve got a six-page first look at Thief 3, reinvigorated Supreme Commander, revisited Rise of Nations and much more. The mag also includes entry into the World of Warplanes closed beta and 14 days of free Runescape membership. The issue is available now via the App Store, Google Play or Zinio. If you prefer your words on trees, you can subscribe to get each issue delivered to your door.

Spring seems reluctant to arrive this year. Is it because of the increasingly erratic meteorological conditions resulting from climate change? Or is it because of FROST GIANTS?!?! We know what we think, and no vast body of evidence and scientific consensus is going to convince us otherwise – particularly not now that we’ve gone and featured such a mythic beast as the cover star of issue 251 of PC Gamer UK. He’s one of the many gruesome gribblies you might encounter in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, to which we’ve dedicated a massive preview. There’s lots more besides: we get on board with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, voyage to the edge of known space in Wildstar and screech through the skies in Divinity: Dragon Commander.

All that AND the mag comes with £8 worth of PlanetSide 2 items!

Issue 251 should be on shelves today, but you can nab it from the App Store, Google Play and Zinio too. Of course, you could always subscribe and get each issue delivered to your door! Hit the jump to see the exclusive subs cover to fully appreciate the majesty of our new ice-dwelling overlord. Then discover what other treats await: news, previews, reviews, retrospectives, tech tests and much more!
