Opera Mobile 10 beta for Windows Mobile phones

Today we launched Opera Mobile 10 Beta for Windows Mobile.
Hot on the heels of the Symbian/S60 release two weeks ago, this brings the new Opera Mobile browsing experience to even more users.

Opera for Windows Mobile now gets the same sleek browser UI we introduced in Opera Mini 5 and the Symbian/S60 version of Opera Mobile. Windows Mobile users will enjoy the new Speed Dials, visual tabs, better touch screen navigation, performance improvements and the very latest Opera browser engine, as capable as any desktop browser.

Read more about it at Opera.com/mobile.

Or just download it on your PC or directly to your mobile phone at m.opera.com/mobile (4.5Mb).

We need your feedback so please post it here or head over to our forums

Known issues in this Beta include:
  • No plug-in support (e.g. Flash)
  • Opera Link is not included
  • Progress bar will show the previous URL for some time while the new page is loading
  • Some input method editors “IME” (hard and soft phone keyboards) are known not to work well with Opera because they do not comply with Microsoft's SIP and/or IME standard. When such an editor is detected by Opera, Opera will use a known (default) input method instead. An exception is EzInput v1.5, where the phone keypad and compact QWERTY, ABC mode doesn't work, but the rest of the modes work fine. We recommend upgrading to EzInput v2.0 to avoid this.
  • Many IME's (input method editors) will override the Opera shortcuts
  • On certain HTC phones, the system titlebar replaces the Opera titlebar after rotating to landscape.
  • Certain HTC devices with TouchFLO will force Opera back to portrait mode if visiting home screen when Opera is in landscape.
  • On older WM 5.0 Devices with 480x800 resolution, switching between portrait and landscape may cause display errors. This is due to lack of support for this resolution in early versions of Microsoft's driver.
  • You must click connect twice to use Opera Dragonfly

Server Upgrade to 4.14.938Opera Mini 5 beta 2 is ready for download!

Does it support non touchscreen Windows Mobile phones ? Because I can't select "accept" at the EULA page on my HTC S710.

HTC Ozone - Same as others, cannot use keys to accept the EULA. Cannot arrow down to "click" accept.

If this build is not "Smartphone compatible", someone needs to get on the marketing department and start sending some corrections. It's being posted *everywhere* that this is both Touch and Non-touch compatible.

Touchscreen & keypad (http://www.opera.com/mobile/) - It's even on your web page.

So, where's the beef?

Congrats Opera Mobile on releasing another build. Keep going hard, you're well ahead of the competition but there is more coming soon.
Love the blog updates (even without builds) keep them coming! smile

I have the same problem, but with a Samsung Ace

Same problem here with my HTC Snap/Maple.

If it DOESN't support Standard non touchscreen of WinMo, DON'T PUT IT onto the PR and features of the beta!

Uninstalling it now.

Jesus Christ, yxyxx. Stop shouting FFS. Do you really think what you have to say is so important you have to shout it out? troll

Add me to the list of non touchscreen users with a moto q9h, i love opera, been using it for years now, but seems like the support for non touch devices is coming to an end

Well I like the look of the user interface with speed dial an the tab bar with thumbnails, but there are still lots of annoyances:

1.) There's no option to set the user agent to something that makes pages like youtube or thesun.co.uk not look ultra-ugly. They show some WAP-crap instead of the desktop-version of the page.

2.) Every time I select a text field the soft-keyboard pops up. That just doesn't make any sense on devices with a hardware keyboard like the Xperia X1 or Touch pro.

3.) There's no option to block content. Not even manually putting the urlfilter.ini in the folder has any effekt. I hate Ads, everyone does, and on small screens and low bandwidth they are even 10x more anoying.

4.) Please add "open link in a BACKGROUND Tab" to the context menu of Links.

5.) I think there should be an option to select the default download path so you don't have to reselect it on every download again and again.

6.) missing Flash support :-(

Complain to the page.

No browsers support Flash. Flash is a plugin, not a native browser feature. Opera needs the Flash plugin to be present.

No, complaining to millions of pages is not an option. It did already work well with previous version of opera mobile by setting "spoof user agent" from 1 to 2 if I remember correctly, but it has no effekt in Opera 10.

Wrong, doesn't work no matter what plugins you install or not.

There are not millions of sites doing this.

Then it's PLUGINS that don't work, not Flash.

Right, means the same to me as there is no other plugin that I'm missing.

In HTC Diamond 2 the is NO auto landscape mode (using g-sensor), and no button (option) to select it.
Surfing in portrait mode is not much fun...

Bjørn Wirumbwirum Wednesday, December 2, 2009 9:30:47 AM

Same on the HTC HD2, no landscape mode, auto or otherwise...

Please add Flash support for S60 ver.5 phones like Nokia 5800 Xpress Music and N97. Thanks!

Skyfire does have Flash Support. It's good for Mobile browsers to have Flash support for watching Youtube videos. So why not include on s60 phones the Flash plugin?

Opera doesn't own Flash. That's Adobe. Ask Adobe.

Skyfire does have Flash Support.

No it doesn't. Skyfire uses servers to transcode SOME videos. But most Flash sites DO NOT WORK.

Does anyone have an idea how to enabling shortcuts on Opera mobile 10?

I cannot use any Opera Mobile shortcut on my Motorola Q9h.

I've try Opera Mini 5, its shortcut works very well, but unsatisfy with web loading result.

Opera Mobile 10 works great on my Motorola Q9h. It loads web page as I experienced with my PC, but I cannot use any shortcut and I cannot open link in new tab/window as I experienced on Opera Mobile 8.65

Please help me... I really like this Opera Mobile 10
