Jonathan Rea Biography

Jonathan Rea was born on February 2nd, 1987 in Larne, Northern Ireland. He was given a 50cc Italijet before he could walk by his grandpa, and has been riding something with two wheels ever since.

Rea started riding in the dirt at a young age, and won the British 60cc motocross in 1997 at the age of 10. Rea would keep at his dirt bike came for the next few years, but in 2003, he made the decision to hit the track.

Rea started his road racing career in the 125cc class of the British Superbike series, but Rea quickly moved up the ranks. After just one year in the British Supersport series, Rea decided to try his Irish luck in the premier class.

Rea would become the youngest rider to ever claim a British Superbike pole position, and in 2007 Rea racked up 5 wins and 16 podiums to claim second in the series.

Rea would be named the Irish Motorcyclist the following year, as he made the transition to the World Superbike series. Rea took to the World Supersport series as soon as he hit the track. Rea took three wins and earned the runner-up spot during his rookie season.

Rea was given the chance to ride in the World Superbike series for the final race of the 2008 season. His performance confirmed what everyone already knew. Rea was ready for the big leagues.

Rea moved up for a full time spot in the World Superbike series in 2009, where he earned two wins in his rookie season for the Ten Kate Honda team. 2010 would be an even more successful season for Rea, as he would claim four wins and fourth place overall.

Rea continues his relationship with Honda in 2011, and has already given Castrol Honda their first win of the season.
