 Fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana (1984-2010)

Born in Anderson, Indiana, August 29, 1933. Ordained a priest May 30, 1959 in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Lafayette. Appointed secretary to Bishop John J. Carberry August 13, 1962. Appointed vice chancellor of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana January 14, 1965. Appointed chancellor of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana June 16, 1967. Named prelate of honor by Pope Paul VI November 16, 1976. Appointed vicar general of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana June 29, 1979. Elected administrator of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana January 26, 1984. Ordained and installed as bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana June 6, 1984. Retired in 2010.
