Healthy Fast Food (Lies & Deception Within the Fast Food Industry)

March 2nd, 2012

By Brandon Cook

“Why bother lifting weights if you aren’t following a sound nutritional regimen? Sure, it may be fun, but are you really accomplishing anything?” -Robert Cheeke

Ronald on a Treadmill

You can lift weights all day and have the perfect routine designed for your body type, but if your nutrition is off you’re wasting your time.

You may be doing everything else right (training, recovery, mindset) and I hope you are! However, if your idea of a nutrition plan is swinging by Biscuitville for breakfast, hitting up the local Mickey D’s for lunch and eating dinner out of a box or bucket…

YOU’RE SCREWED BRO!

You can’t out train a bad diet, no matter how hard you try. Even if you could, you’d only look healthy on the outside, while dying of a coronary on the inside.

Hmm, that reminds me of a poem the Joker touted in the ol’ Batman movie starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson:

“I’m only laughing on the outside
My smile is just skin deep
If you could see inside I’m really crying
You might join me for a weep.”

I think that puts it in perspective!  Read the rest of this entry »

The Most Anabolic Foods Known to Man

January 25th, 2012

By Brandon Cook

“Every major food company now has an organic division. There’s more capital going into organic agriculture than ever before.” – Michael Pollan

Juicy Steak

Living a successful life and building the physique of your dreams, all comes down to choices.

And your local supermarket has a TON of foods for you to choose from.

Unfortunately, what is stocked on most of the shelves are crappy, processed foods that are manufactured in a lab somewhere. If you’re smart you’ll avoid 95% of anything that comes in a bag, box or can.

The late Jack Lalanne wisely reminded us that “If man made it, don’t eat it.”

As for the small percentage of foods you may get in such packaging… the fewer ingredients on the label the better! You do read the labels, right?

Today I want to eliminate some of the confusion by covering some of the most anabolic foods you can select. I should also mention that you should choose organic 100% of the time if it is available and you can afford to do so.

Don’t be like most people who buy the cheapest food they can find. This isn’t a commodity item… we’re talking about making an investment in your health and future life experience.

What you spend now could possibly save you thousands of dollars later on in pharmaceuticals and hospital bills… not to mention unnecessary suffering! :( Read the rest of this entry »

Part 4: The Original Contrarian Bodybuilder (Vince Gironda)

October 13th, 2011

By Brandon Cook

“You don’t build a muscle until you ‘build’ the nerve pathway. What comes first? It starts INSIDE. The muscle is only a BADGE for something else. Look. You’re talkin’ to a guy that is not genetically superior; I’ve always been a hard-gainer. I’ve got every reason to be believed.” – Vince Gironda

Vince GirondaBeing a Contrarian Bodybuilder isn’t always easy and no one knows that more than Vince Gironda. If you didn’t recognize him right away, he is the man in the picture on the left.

Vince was a legendary bodybuilding icon. His training methods contrasted greatly with the accepted practices of that era and he was very controversial.

Vince is the Original Contrarian Bodybuilder!

Vince “Iron Guru” Gironda was perhaps at the pinnacle of fame in the “Golden Years” of bodybuilding, the 1960’s. During that time, Vince dominated the scene and Vince’s gym, was known as the Mecca of bodybuilding.

Not only champion bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane trained at Vince’s Gym, but movie stars were also regular visitors to seek Vince’s training advice. By Brandon Cook

All fixed, set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns.”– Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee In Part 1, we learned that a “contrarian” is a person with a preference for taking a position in opposition to the majority. We also discussed why this may be an intelligent thing to do, despite the fact you may be considered a freak, a lunatic and/or put on house arrest for the remainder of your life.

Part 1: It’s Time to Become a Contrarian Bodybuilder

September 19th, 2011

By Brandon Cook

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”  –George Bernard Shaw

Guy on the Rings

A contrarian, according to Wikipedia, is a person with a preference for taking a position opposed to that of the majority.

In simple terms, they do the opposite of what everybody else is doing.

Most commonly, the label is used in the investing world. You have, more likely than not, heard of a ‘contrarian investor.’

Warren Buffet said, “What the wise man does at the beginning, the fool does in the end.”

The best time to buy stocks is when the market has crashed, the price is low and the stock is undervalued. The best time to sell is when the stock price is at its highest peak, everything is going great and the stock is becoming overvalued.

This is a common contrarian investing strategy, yet why is it that the majority of investors buy in and jump on the band wagon when everybody else is buying the latest and the greatest, hopes are high and so is the rising price?

Then bad news hits and things begin to take a turn for the worse. The majority of investors ride the market down hoping that it will turn around. Surprise, it doesn’t… and then even more bad news hits. Everyone panics and suddenly decides to get out after the market has already tanked and now fear losing it all.

Read the quote by Warren Buffet again for the answer! Read the rest of this entry »

Think & Grow HUGE! Part 1 – Definiteness of Purpose

August 25th, 2011

By Brandon Cook

Successful people move on their own initiative but they know where they are going before they start.”–Napoleon Hill

Decide what you want, find out how to get it, and then take daily action toward achieving your goal.”–Napoleon Hill

In this first video by Napoleon Hill you will learn the starting point of all human achievement and why it is absolutely vital to have a clear vision of what you intend to achieve in life. Dr. Hill has explained that lack of this definite purpose is like being a ship without a rudder, both powerless and directionless.

After watching the video be sure to read on and learn how to apply this principle to your muscle building goals. Read the rest of this entry »

Think & Grow HUGE! Introduction to Napoleon Hill

August 4th, 2011

By Brandon Cook

What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”–Napoleon Hill

Think & Grow Huge

“All the breaks you need in life wait within your imagination. Imagination is the workshop of your mind, capable of turning mind energy into accomplishment and wealth.” – Napoleon Hill

Hey there, hope you’re doing great! I’m pretty excited because this is the first post, in a series of posts, I’m doing on one of my favorite authors and ‘virtual’ mentors Napoleon Hill. Now, if you’re familiar with Napoleon Hill, you know that he is the author of the classic literary work entitled “Think and Grow Rich.”

Napoleon Hill is largely considered to be one of the greatest writers of all time on the subject of success and achievement and many even consider him to be the pioneer of the field of personal development.

Think & Grow Rich

His book, “Think and Grow Rich”, was first published in 1937 and has gone on to be one of the best-selling books of all time, selling over 20 million copies by the time of his death in 1970. That number is probably a lot larger now!

These past couple weeks at breakfast I’ve been watching a series of short video recordings where Napoleon Hill is explaining his success principles. Then all of a sudden, the desire  to share them with you came over me. A large percentage of you have expressed interest in personal growth and development, wealth building and success strategies and so I think you will find these posts rather interesting and enlightening.

Even so, the majority of readers coming to this site express the desire to grow muscle and therefore I want to tie it back to this goal of ours. For that reason, I took the liberty of adding a little twist to Hill’s original title calling this series of posts THINK & GROW HUGE!!! Read the rest of this entry »
