Having impressed while on First Team duty during the summer of 2012, Mesca was unfortunate that injury robbed him of the chance to make the breakthrough to Premier League football last term.
During the 2011/12 season Martin Jol tipped the young winger to make the step up, with the player often amongst the best players in both Under-18 and Development Squad matches.
As a result, when Jol’s squad embarked on their pre-season tour of Germany, the Manager showed no hesitation in calling the player up alongside a clutch of the Club’s most promising young talents. As it turned out, Mesca was one of Fulham’s most impressive performers over the summer.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, he represents Portugal at youth level and spent two seasons on the books of our west London rivals Chelsea before arriving at the Cottage in August 2011. Running with power, direction and skill, Mesca has many of the attributes that suggest he could make a real impact.
A knee injury curtailed his progress but he fought his way back to fitness in 2013 and was rewarded in April with a new three-year deal, with the option of a further year, which will see him remain at the Club until at least the summer of 2016.
