Gen. Andranik’s Remains to Be Buried in Armenia


YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Pursuant to the initiatives of Vazgen Sargsyan and to widespread public appeals–General Andranik’s remains will be buried in the Yerablur national cemetery.

Government of Armenia applied to the French authorities asking them to allow the remains of national hero Andranik to be transported to Armenia.

The remains of Andranik will be brought to Armenia on February 17. The delegation that will visit France to accompany the transport will be led by Yerevan Mayor Albert Bazeyan.

On February 18 and 19–Andranik’s remains will be placed at the Sport & Concert Complex in Yerevan after which the coffin will be taken to St. Etchmiadzin where His Holiness Karekin II–Catholicos of All Armenia’s will officiate over a funeral service at St. Etchmiadzin Cathedral on February 20.

Gen. Andranik’s remains will then be moved to Yerablur and buried next slain prime minister Vazgen Sargsyan.

A special government commission led by Lieutenant-General Vagharshak Haroutiunian will oversee the events.
