Hi, I’m Lindsay – a lifestyle and wedding photographer based in Fort Mill, South Carolina. After four years of business, I knew that I was ready for a change. When you own your own business and YOUR NAME is at the forefront of what you do, you want your product to be TRUE to who YOU are! Yes, I loved my old look . . . it was me THEN. I just wanted my new look to be ME NOW! I wanted everything to speak to the heart of why it is that I have this business in the first place and it took time and development as an artist and business owner to know that.

I decided to jump head first into a complete overhaul and re-brand of my business which was unveiled in April. (You can read all about the process here.) It was a four month journey from start to finish that included a new logo, rebuilding a new website and blog, new products, a business video, new processes (from a business side), new opportunities for my clients, new marketing and NEW packaging.

Lindsay Alexander

Lindsay Alexander

Lindsay Alexander

It was a TON of hard work and many late nights of decision making. In the end, I am so happy with the final outcome and a “look” that truly reflects who I am and what my business is all about.

Lindsay Alexander

One of the most fun parts of the re-brand was designing my new marketing and packaging. When I began to envision my custom packaging I knew that I wanted everything to have a very personal touch. With so many things manufactured these days, there is something about holding something someone MADE and personalized in your hands that always feels, I dunno, warm and inviting.

Lindsay Alexander

Lindsay Alexander

Lindsay Alexander

I wanted packaging that looked like me and spoke to the heart of the details that I care so much about. I also wanted everything to coordinate, feel organic and have a purpose. I found ways to implement my signature metallic gold, black, white, kraft and my fun chevron print as the bones of my design. I then worked to create something that was beautiful, meaningful and practical for my clients.

their standard postcards. Practical and perfect for their purpose.
They are lots of fun to send!

3. My small treat bags for my little clients along with my larger
muslin bags are from Celestial Gifts.

4. My stamps were designed by me and ordered through

5. My vertical hang-tags are basically vertical business cards with
my image on the front and basic info on the back. They are a linen
    texture from VistaPrint.

work great and are RECYCLED materials. The best part!

7. My gold and white twine is from The Twinery.

8. Both trifolds were designed by me and were printed through
WHCC on their watercolor paper. I LOVE the quality and feel
of these. They are really beautiful.

9. Kraft bags and tissue are from Hobby Lobby and when they
go on sale (which they always do), I stock up! Inside are
usually prints that are inserted into bags with backing board
    from ClearBags.com.

10. My wedding boxes are from Paper Source. I have also used
them for my boxes for four years. The quality is GREAT and I
love that these have a nubby, recycled paper quality to them.

We’re excited to have another photographer packaging feature / guest post here at Paperie Boutique!

Please welcome Sarah of Parisi Images – don’t forget to visit her blog for additional images and vendor resources for the products shown below!

div line

Parisi Images logo

Since starting my photography business in 2007, I have worked hard at honing my brand into one that is both timeless and versatile. It has always been important to me that my branding allow my images to speak for themselves, giving the photographs center attention and not the design. Similarly, it’s been important that the branding emphasize the story-telling approach I take when photographing weddings.

When designing my identity system (I am a professional designer as well as photographer), I took cues from the design and layout of old newspapers, magazines (namely Life) and advertisements. This meant that I kept my color palette to the simple combination of black, white and kraft. Over time, as I added more pieces – namely the 8×8 brochure booklet – I included additional colors pulled directly from my images—colors like navy, burnt orange, magenta and deep kelly green.

Perhaps the two most important pieces in my branding so far are the kraft folders and the 8×8 12-page informational brochure booklet. The kraft folders (folders from Paper Presentation and letterpress logo printed by Cranky Pressman) offer me a great way to provide prospective and current clients with packets of information as well as giving me an easy-to-ship way to package fine art prints. The informational brochure/booklet is meant to be a stand-out piece that I mail to any bride who inquires about my services.

Other items in my identity system pieces include a square 2×2 business card on kraft paper, an A2 flat card I use to write handwritten notes of all sorts (I intentionally decided to make a generic card so that I could use them for all occasions), custom post-it notes and, of course, logo stickers and shipping labels.

button pretty in pink

Just in case you’ve missed the announcements on Paperie’s Facebook and Twitter accounts… I recently turned in my last (June 2013) column at Professional Photographer Magazine! Starting with the July 2013 issue, I will no longer be appearing there as a Contributing Editor / freelance writer.

If you normally write me at my ppa.com e-mail address, please change your address books to “robyn AT paperieboutique DOT com” – after this Friday, April 19th, my ppa.com account will no longer be active!

every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end

I started writing at Professional Photographer in June 2010, and writing for their Web Exclusives as well in June 2011. It’s been an amazing run! I cannot thank my former Director, Cameron Bishopp Davis (now Editor in Chief for CLICK Magazine by our sponsor Clickin Moms), enough for giving me my start in June 2010, and for all of the amazing opportunities that have followed. The June 2013 issue will mark three years in every issue from 6/10 to 6/13 – and that’s an accomplishment I am very proud of!

But now … it’s time to start on my new future at 40, and I can’t wait! – Robyn

button step one – cut a hole in a box

We recently asked our readers what you want to see on Paperie this year. One of the requests was inexpensive packaging. So today we’re going to talk DIY boxes. The examples shown below are small Favor / Gift Boxes, but you can create virtually any size of box if you look around enough!

This particular (FREE!) template comes from Holiday Crafts and Creations. You can find the template used here on their site.

div line

First I selected the cardstock I wanted to use. This allows you to get creative with your packaging because you select the colors and prints you want to use. You’re not limited to a small swatch-selection on a website. Michael’s and Hobby Lobby both sell cardstock in pads and looseleaf. (The glitter-swirl and black and white damask prints below were both purchased looseleaf.) Sites like Crafty Steals also have amazing “paper bundle” deals.

cardstock selection

Next I used a paper trimmer to cut the 12×12″ sheet down to 8.5×11″ each, and printed the box template on the back of each one.

printed cardstock

Then I cut out each of the templates and used a scoring board and bone folder – scoring each fold line allows you to have perfect, crisp folds and creases. If you don’t have a scoring board and bone tool, you can also create a similar effect with a metal ruler and plastic butter knife (using the non-serrated side).

template scoring board

When assembling the box, the directions say to use double-sided tape or glue to hold two of the tabs into place. I like to use Tombow Mono permanent adhesive.

assembled box

The template includes an inside box-bottom liner, so I gathered a few stamps and ink pads to leave a cute message inside of each one.

After assembling the boxes, I decorated them with ribbon. The double-sided, reversible ribbon shown here is from Hobby Lobby.

box and ribbon

One of the cardstock prints was too thick to go through my printer, so I took the box template, erased all of the interior fold lines, and used my Silhouette Cameo Cutter to trace and cut it out. This would work great if you plan to assemble several boxes at one time! I printed another template (with fold lines) on thin copy paper, and used that as my guide to score the thicker cardstock.

silhouette cameo cutting

To remove the cardstock from the cutting mat without tearing, I used a Cricut Spatula Tool.

And here you see the final result using different ribbons and embellishments to decorate each box. The cardstock and ribbon combinations are endless!

final box assembly

Now the boxes I’ve shown are obviously too small for prints – they would work better for small client gifts. However, (FREE!) templates exist online in just about every shape and size. You just have to look! Here are a few of my favorites:
