Brooke - Love this!!! She is the cutest mama! I love them all:) Fabulous job as usual!

accent wall {master bedroom}

This idea was in my head for so long, I’m so excited to actually be done with it!  It started with wanting to just trim out the wall behind our bed, but here in Texas they have those textured walls (yuck, haha) so I started looking for options to put behind the trim, for a flat smooth surface between the trim, and then that’s when the idea grew!  I’ve been seeing these 3D wall panels all over HGTV lately, and I absolutely love them, so after a bunch of research I finally found a few retailers!  But ouch, they were really expensive! gahhh  : (  Of course right?!!  So I decided to put them in between in the trim on our wall, did the math, and the price actually wasn’t that bad – especially for such a huge impact, so we started planning it out!

I got stuck at the beginning, because the inside of the squares had to be 18″x18″ – instead of just buying 4″ trim boards and then doing the math for the wall to make the squares even I had to work around the squares being a certain size.  Luckily, for our wall it wasn’t that bad though, just a few minutes playing around, and it came out to 5″ boards on the top and bottom, 3″ boards on the outer left & right, and 4″ boards in the middle, and 40 3D panelsto make a perfect grid on our wall.  I was a little hesitant about how it would look that way, but with such a huge wall, I figured that 1″ difference on the outer edges really wouldn’t be that noticeable  : )  So, we went ahead like that.

I ordered the 3D panels – 4 boxes of 10 – perfect, no waste!  I was so excited when they arrived.  I was a little surprised at how they felt and how thin they were – they literally feel like a heavy duty paper plate – but after handling them, painting them, and putting them up, I’m totally happy with them!  They weren’t flimsy at all  : )

Once those arrived we headed to Lowes for the trim – we ended up getting a 4′x8′ sheet of MDF 1/4″ thick and had them cut it into the correct amount of strips – it was super cheap that way.  It was under $20 per sheet, we only needed 2, and they made 22 cuts for us for free – score!   We made the rest of the cuts at home, happily working with their perfectly straight cut strips!  Then we just started putting it up!  Since it was so thin, we only needed a few small finishing nails in each board, and just used liquid nail to adhere it, and of course, by we, I mean my awesome hubbster!

You can tell that took some time! haha  That second photo was taken at night  : )

After that, we filled the few nail holes, any gaps between the boards, let that dry, then sanded it all down. And the next day we primed and painted!

Once that was all dry, we had to pick paint for the panels – I had yet to decide on that, haha.  We chose to spray paint them, and after we landed on the color choice (a steel blue) hubbs set up a paint factory in the garage and went to work!  Spray painting 40 panels took all day, and we let them set up over night.  The third day we started putting them in place.  It got a little tricky here, because of course not every square was exactly 18×18, and we ended up needing a heavy duty paper cutter to shave the panels down.  It took some practice runs – there are a few a tiny bit crooked behind my bed, haha, but we got it down, and then went to work placing each tile.  Inhabit said contact cement would work great, but there was so little of the 3d tiles that actually touch the wall that it took a lot of time holding each tile in place to set up – we ended up using tacs to help out – we just wedged the tac between the trim and panel without creating a tac hole, and that worked well.

Again, just one last push of tedious work, and we were done!  We let the tacs sit for another day, then removed them all, and everything is now in place!!

The wall is awesome now!  It took a little getting used to, it’s such a statement wall, but we both literally love it more & more every time we see it!  : )  It makes the room feel huge too, which is cool, because we have 10′ ceilings in there, it really highlights that  : )  Now I just need to find some new nightstands and we’ll be all set!  Bummer, more home shopping  ; )  haha  So, what do you think?!

Tried it {the pinterest yard water blob thingy}

For our 4th of July party we had our big water slide out, but we had a few families with kids coming, so we decided to add some more water fun to the yard, and we made the pinterest water bed thing.  So, I thought it would be a good post for “Tried It”  : )

I was super excited because it was easy & cheap, and I had seen a few blogs where people raved about it – so why not, right?!  We actually already had the plastic too, so it was beyond cheap & easy!  I picked up red duck tape since it was for a 4th of July party & all, and then hubbster put it all together.  The instruction link I had found the most helpful was – this one – from Utah County Mom - so follow that link for great step by step instructions!

We just made a smaller one, and doubled the plastic, and the kids really did love it – but it only lasted about an hour total, haha.  Once the boys got through to the water they actually had more fun with it, lol, so we didn’t stop them, but if you stopped them from ripping it apart, it would definitely last a lot longer.  I think overall it was worth it for sure, and even once they got a big hole in it, it took them quite a bit of fun crazy boy play time to get all the water out, so if you’ve seen the blob, pinned the blob, & are thinking about doing it, I would say go for it!  Maybe triple the plastic if you want to keep it longer, but really the water coming through does make it better.

And it is a gorgeous background for photos, major plus for me, haha – my poor kid, lol

{Tried It} – Verdict – do it – have fun & stay cool!  Happy Summer  : )

8 years with a ring on it

James … Sometimes I get into the car and you have already turned the seat warmer on for me because it’s cold outside.  Every night you bring enough water to bed for both of us.  Sometimes you clean up after your 13 hour work day just because you know I can’t handle putting another dish in the dishwasher.  You know me better than I know myself, and there’s proof of it every day.  All the small things you do, and think I don’t notice, (but I do), are proof of it.  And I love you more for it.

I never really stop to think how you’ve grown into the perfect man for me.  We get so busy with the day to day, that I guess I never realized how much we’ve changed.  We both used to be so different, in so many ways, but becoming a family has changed us for the better, and I love that we are changing together, for each other, and still staying so very much in love.  You are the perfect man for me, a different man than I married, but are still just as perfect for me as the man that I married, if not more perfect.  You have grown with me, alongside me.  And I love you more or it.

I can be a tad snooty (lets be honest, haha) and you never hesitate to call me on it.  You always know how to make it better though, and somehow, you always do.  Whether I am upset with you, or anything else, you always make it better.  You never just ignore it, or let me get away with walking out or turning over in bed.  And I love you more for it.

I love the way you want me, I love the way we play, and I know I say I hate it, but sometimes, I love how you just cuddle like a monkey person & won’t let go.  I love how you always have to kiss me goodbye when you leave for work, even though it’s like 5:30am and I’m layin there, hair all a mess, half asleep.  I love that you always text me when you’re leaving excited to come home & see us.  I love watching you play with Connor.  I love that you support everything I dream of doing.  I love that you work so hard for us.  I love that you found a sushi place we can both enjoy.  I love that you look sexy in a v-neck tee shirt.  I love how you kiss me.  I love that you are soooo funny.  I love that we tell each other everything.  I love that you are a great father.  And I love that you love me, in spite of me.  Everything I love, is everything you are, and I love you more for it.

Here’s to the next 8 years …. Happy Anniversary Lover Muffin
