NOCSI in attempt to revive boxing

Read more...The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) is taking steps to organise a special general meeting in a move to revive boxing that has been dysfunctional for years.

Boxing is one of the sports that made Solomon Islands proud and had been flying the country's flag in varies international and regional games in past years.

A sport that been enjoyed by boxing fans and followers the past years but somehow has faded away to a point of no return.

Because of this on-going problem facing the Boxing federation, NOCSI say they are really concerned about the innocent athletes who are affected by this problem.

Athletes have been denied their rights and opportunity to participate overseas and local competitions, says NOCSI.
It is for this reason; NOCSI will be organizing a special meeting on 25 August to discuss the revival of this sport.
After consultation with NFs (July) monthly meeting, NOCSI will finally facilitate the meeting on the above date in Honiara at the NOCSI conference room, Centre Point building at 2pm.

NOCSI wants to see boxing revive in the country.
"We want to see boxing providing on-going competitions to its athletes and moreover, to comply with International federations (IF) statutory obligation," a statement from the National Committee said.

Existing affiliated associations of Honiara, Lauru, Western Province and Shorthand are invited to send two representatives to attend the meeting, but at their own expenses.

"We also extend invitation to provincial sport coordinators to attend the meeting if the provinces assist them to attend this special meeting for the revival of boxing Solomon Islands.

"This is an important meeting where we expect existing boxing associations and provincial sport coordinators to attend to discuss the future of Boxing as well as electing a new committee to lead the boxing federation in the next four years."

NOCSI will facilitate the meeting therefore they urge existing boxing associations to send representatives that include the provincial sport coordinators to attend the meeting.

The meeting will basically be to elect a new committee to manage and administer boxing federation throughout the next four years.
