In the British period since 1882 to create a expert manpower on technical education this institute start work with the name of “ Baily Gobindo Technical School ” on the place which are near from the “ Zilla Porishod Vabon” .

Now that campus name is “ Rangpur Technical School & Collage, Rangpur ” . When the India & Pakistan are become divided in 1962 the civil & Power technology has been included in this institute and its name convert into “ Rangpur Technical Institute ”.

In 1968 it named change again into “ Rangpur Polytechnic Institute ” because of adding Mechanical & Electrical Technology. To develop the technology synchronizely in 1992 there add some new technology named Electronics Technology, in 2002 Computer Technology, in 2006 Electromedical Technology.

At present every year about 384 student are admit into 1st & 2nd shift and total 384*2=768 student are read in 7 technology.
This is a perfect government educational institute for engineering education because its peaceful environment, the large constructed campus which have about 33 acre land area with the green shadow contain with pleaser & less of crowd.

This institute has many laboratories & workshop contain with advanced instrument & materials.
