The Honours information meeting will take place on the 20th of September, 2013, time 10:00am -11:00 am, room ASB115. The meeting will be followed by complimentary morning tea with the faculty and current students.

The Honours program with the School of Economics is open to students who have demonstrated strong performance in the three-year pass program in Economics, or equivalent program, with completed courses Microeconomics 2, Macroeconomics 2 and Introductory Econometrics. Pass graduates from other universities may also participate in the Honours program.

The Honours degree is obtained through an additional year of study. Full-time students complete their Honours degree in two semesters (program starts in semester 1), and part-time students complete it in three semesters (program starts either in semester 1 or semester 2). Honours students require a high level of motivation and superior academic ability.

Honours programs are available in:

During the Honours year, students complete five courses and two thesis seminar courses at the Honours level. These courses allow the students to study areas of economics in more depth.
In addition, each candidate must write and submit an Honours thesis. The thesis is a report on an original research project, written under the direction of a supervisor.

Through the successful completion of a thesis, the student acquires an in-depth knowledge of a particular focus in economics, as well as experience with general research methods.
The thesis signals the ability to think through problems and to communicate results. It may be the most valuable component of an application to professional positions and post-graduate programs. Almost all recent Honours graduates are currently employed as professionals either in the public or private sector. Selected students also follow prestigious post-doctoral programs.
