Event may show new version of Nike FuelBand monitoring device
Nike has sent out invitations to the media for an October 15 event in New York City, where it plans to discuss the future of its digital world experience. Likely, but not confirmed, at the event is a new iteration of the FuelBand monitoring device, which is nearly two years old.
The information from the current FuelBand wristband is integrated into the Nike+ online community and phone application, allowing wearers to set fitness goals, monitor progression, and compare themselves to others part of the community. Nike+ relies on the gamification of fitness activities turning all tracked movement into NikeFuel points, which can unlock achievements, can be shared with friends, or can be used to engage others in competition.
Nike has not explicitly said that it will reveal a new FuelBand or even update the software. It may instead opt to discuss what it plans on doing with the iPhone 5s M7 motion sensing chip.
