Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.

Sony is always concerned about quality and customer satisfaction and therefore is offering a firmware update for Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera SLT-A77. Please refer to the "Download and Installation" section of this page on how to download and install the firmware update.

Confirm the firmware version of your camera

Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.1.07 or later, the update is not required.

  1. Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

Supported Products

This firmware update only applies to SLT-A77 that currently has a firmware version 1.06 or lower

Improvements

This utility updates the SLT-A77 firmware to version 1.07 , and provides the following benefits:

  • Provides support for the following automatic compensation compliant lenses: SAL100M28, SAL50M28, SAL85F28, SAL18200, SAL20F28, SAL28F28

Previous update (1.06) brought the following improvements:

  1. Addition of capability to enable or disable MOVIE button
  2. Expanded the number of automatic compensation compliant lenses: SAL30M28,SAL50F14,SAL2470Z,SAL2875,SAL70400G,SAL70200G,SAL35F14G,SAL1635Z

Notes:* 64-bit and Starter editions are not supported.** Starter edition is not supported.

System Requirements

Preparing for firmware update

  • Computer hardware
    • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
    • RAM: 512MB or more
      Note: Please close all other application software before updating the firmware.
  • Power source for the camera
    • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM500H
      or
      AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately)

      Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
  • USB cable supplied with the camera

    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

How to update ?

Important notes:

  • When performing the firmware update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM500H or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Do not cover Eyepiece sensors (A.) during the update; otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press the [FINDER / LCD button] (B.) .

Step 1: Download the firmware updater

  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
  2. At the bottom of the page, read the disclaimer and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the checkbox. Then, click on the Download button.
  3. The download of the [Update_SLTA77V107.exe] file will start.
  4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

Step 2: Start up the Firmware Updater

  1. Close all currently running programs on your computer.
  2. Double-click the [Update_SLTA77V107.exe] file you downloaded to start up the Firmware Updater.


    The Firmware Updater window appears.

  3. According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, select Menu --> Setup --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
    If another mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage .



  4. If it has not been done already, remove the memory card from the camera.
  5. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: USB Mode appears on the LCD monitor of the camera.
  6. Confirm the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
  7. After confirming the above, click Next on the Firmware Updater window. Figure 1 appears on the Firmware Updater window, and Figure 2 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
    • When clicking Next , do not cover Eyepiece sensors ( A. on Figure 2.1 ) during the update; otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press the [FINDER / LCD button] ( B. on Figure 2.1 ).
    • If Figure 2 does not appears on the LCD screen of the camera, please disconnect the USB cable from the camera, and proceed to the " Recovery procedure " detailed at the bottom of the page.
    Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware update is completed.

  8. After confirming the screens on Figures 1 and 2, click Next . The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 3)
  9. After confirming Current Version is Ver.1.03, Ver.1.04, Ver.1.05 or Ver.1.06 , click Next .
    If the screen on Figure 4 appears, the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish . Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.

  10. Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection, as instructed on figure 5.
    Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.

  11. Press the center of the [Multi-selector] to execute the reset of the camera.

    Note: The screen turns off when the center of the [Multi-selector] is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
  12. Click Next on the Firmware Updater window ( Figure 5 ).
  13. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 6 appears.
  14. Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 5 minutes).
    Note:Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

  15. When the update is completed, the screen on Figure 7 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.

  16. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.

Step 3: Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.1.07.

  1. Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

Recovery procedure

If the USB connection was not successful, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Turn ON the camera.
  2. Press the MENU , Playback and MOVIE buttons simultaneously.
  3. While Pressing these buttons, turn OFF the camera.
  4. Release your fingers, and wait over 30 seconds.
  5. Press the MENU , Playback and MOVIE buttons simultaneously again.
  6. While Pressing these buttons, now turn ON the camera.
  7. Release your fingers.

After performing the above procedure, try to update again starting from Step 2.3 .
