HERMAN BROCK JR AND THE EUROCASTERS

Holland's hottest up and coming band
By Pat Savage

Hello from Hulst Holland readers of Guitar News Weekly and fellow guitarists around the world. My name is Pat Savage and this is my first article in some time as I have been signed with Sony Europe and touring for the last eight months, with little time to write. I have rarely written about another band, but I am truly blown away by, and am taking the time to let you guitarists and guitar fans world wide know about these rising stars I have discovered in the band.

Herman Brock Jr And The Eurocasters
This hell-raisin, shit-kickin trio from the south of the Nederlands owes much to talented guitarist Herman Brock Jr and his unique blending of traditional styles. Herman Jr. played lead guitar in his fathers band, Fat Freddy's Freak Federation for years and developed and honed his guitar chops all the while. His guitar playing style is an interesting mix of texas blues, rockabilly, and country with a sprinkle of voodoo and a little cajun. His approach to the songs which he has crafted over the years is fresh, unique and exciting to me, a guitarist and producer who has worked for 25 years with many different bands and guitar players.

Bass player Liz, who started her bass playing career as a student of Herman's, is a great electric and stand up bass guitarist in her own right and knows exactly where he is going in a song. She is very integral to the sound of the band and holds a solid and steady groove.

Behind the drum kit sits Freezo a formally trained classical composer, who also has held the drumstool for long time metal band Polluted Inheritance. He gives the band the solid and exciting backbone drumming that is very spontaneous and organic. His improvisational skills and big ears keeps him right with the tunes.Together Liz and Freezo make a solid background for Herman Jr's colorful licks.

Although the band's sound does conjur up comparisons to the listener to Stray Cats, David Allen Coe, Reverand Hortan Heat, Waylon Jennings, Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan, they have a distinctive sound of their own. Herman Brock Jr & The Eurocasters have been playing in the Nederlands area club and festival scene for some time now, and a recent successfull tour of Texas has resulted in sessions recorded with hot Texas blues guitarist Mike Morgan which this writer had the opportunity to enjoy during recent mastering sessions.

It is this writer's intention to take them with me on our massive tour of Europe this summer, as our exclusive opening act. And by doing this I will take them to the next level, and I will get them signed to a good record contract if it kills me! They are that good! Check em out for yourself!

Happy New Year and all the best to guitarists and your friends and family all over our crazy musical planet. May this year be the year we all discover the holy golden riffs to keep us playin and moving ahead with our axes in tune. Keep on stringin'!
