Rummy is a 1980s film

DC | Anupama Subramanian | 18th May 2013

Actor-turned-director Balakrishnan is a happy man these days. Having started as a production executive in a number of Lingusamy’s films, Bala later turned to acting and did villain roles in a dozen films, including Mouna Guru. His debut production venture, interestingly titled Rummy, which has the rising star Vijay Sethupathy, Inigo Prabhakar and Soori in the lead, is set against the backdrop of the late 1980s. A campus story, set in one of the government colleges in a village near Sivagangai, the romantic element in the plot has Aishwarya and Gayathri (of Naduvula Konjam Pakkathai Kanom fame) as the female leads. Imman has been roped in for the music.“I was in college when there were no autonomous universities. The story is based on the real life experiences I underwent, with a few surprises thrown in. It has shaped up well,” discloses the director.
