Small House Innovation

With a dedication to craftmanship, sustainability, and site specific design, Small House Innovation is ready to turn your vision into a reality.

Small House Innovation is a dynamic home run business that takes pride and pleasure in building high quality hand crafted homes and other modest structures in the heart of BC’s West Kootenay’s. Surrounded by choice wood, superb craftspeople of all kinds, and a natural environment that is inspiring and wild, Small House Innovation is a company that has grown out of a way of life, and a belief that indeed small is beautiful. Our aim is to build to the best of our ability, one at a time, just like the client wants it. Be it a complete custom home package, or a guest-cottage, greenhouse, garage, studio, massage parlour, music den, man cave, workshop, sauna, treehouse, floathome, or just a front porch, each project receives our full attention.

Planning and Design

At Small House Innovation we believe that planning and design are integral to the success of any building project. Without compromising function or craft, we offer creative solutions and comprehensive cost-analysis from the ground up. From thorough design and planning, we meld clients’ hopes and vision with years of practical experience and skill to complete each project on time and within budget. Our designers create custom plans and work closely with clients, ensuring designs fit both lifestyle and budget. All projects designed and built by Small House Innovation meet local building codes and are structurally engineered for quality and safety.

Our unique location in the heart of British Columbia’s Kootenay Mountains means we can rely on small-volume mills to deliver superior timber, exceptional services, and a variety of custom wood products. We aim to use local wood that is harvested responsibly and work with nearby sources to provide eco-certified wood and quality recycled wood products where desired.

Small House Innovation recognizes the attention to detail and artful elegance that older houses showcase, and works to integrate these aspects. Much of what stood out then can still be found today, from antique tubs and fixtures, to doors, windows, flooring, cabinets, moulding, etc. Whether vintage or custom, our network of local artisans and craft people can be trusted to help you find what you seek, or create what you desire. It is the little things that count and through honouring our past while embracing the future, we are building houses today that will stand the test of time.
