Information about the long rumored new Batman animated series is finally starting to emerge. With Batman: The Brave and the Bold ending soon, it’s no surprise that a updated animated Batman will debut in 2013 after taking a little time off to give Green Lantern the animated spotlight in 2012.
Beware the Batman is the name of the new series produced by Glen Murakami, a longtime Warner Bros and DC animated producer who began working with Bruce Timm on Batman: The Animated Series designing characters, became art director on Superman: The Animated Series and a producer on Batman Beyond and Justice League. He served as producer The Batman and was the creative force on Teen Titans Go.
“The CGI animated series will spotlight a classic-looking Batman teaming up with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth and a female ninja sidekick,” says the site. “Beware the Batman is executive-produced by Glen Murakami, and will explore the mythology’s more obscure villains, such as Professor Pyg, but also won’t shy away from featuring some of the more well-known Batman foes. In the series, Batman will team up with a younger female sidekick named Katana. During the keynote, Register added that Katana will fill the sidekick role, but won’t be a replacement for Robin.”MIP Junior conference in Cannes, France
It was also revealed at the conference noted above that Aardman Animation is creating a series of Batman shorts for the DC Nation block set to debut on Cartoon Network in 2012. Another series of shorts starring Wonder Girl, Batgirl and Supergirl billed as Super Best Friends Forever was mentioned, but it wasn’t clear if Ardman or another company was responsible for this — I’m guessing another company.
This is great news, especially regarding the DC Nation shorts. I didn’t expect to see a lot of new content. This sounds like we’ll not only get new content, but they’ll use this to experiment with style and content of the stories as well.
