Trivandrum: Conscientia ’13, a four day annual, technical and astronomical fest organised by the Indian Institute of Space Science And Technology (IIST), Valiyamala near Nedumangad is fast becoming the largest college fest of the city – replete with events never seen before. The fest began on March 22 where innovative ideas and events have been on display.
Of the many events on show Water Rocketry and Night Sky Watching have attracted great attention. “In Night Sky-watching, they will be asked to point out the brightest star in the sky and the person who finds it correctly will be named the winner,” said Poojitha, one of the organisers.
She also said, “No other colleges in the country offer astronomy related fests like this and it is IIST Trivandrum who has done that.” Robotic events also received enthusiastic support. Arvind who is the publicity head of the fest said, “The Robotic events are getting more support and this will be conducted mainly in the evening and more than twenty teams will participate in the event.”
Conscientia, Latin ‘sharing of knowledge’ has done precisely that. Workshop section offers events like Android Botix and Biplane workshop among which, the latter is the first of its kind in the country and Android is becoming a popular one.

In fact well known personalities form outside the state will be conducting lectures about Android and this would be sessions showing how a robot can be controlled using Android mobile and without a remote.
Aerotrix, a branch of sky fi laps is also conducting a workshop here on mechanically related trainings and on mechanical birds. Aerotrix is a super challenge workshop for improving the skills and employability of engineering students through activity based training programs.
Ashish, Director of Operations Sky fi laps said “We are India’s biggest aero modeling workshop providers which offer workshops in Aerospace Engineering and this year we are launching a bi plane workshop here at IIST for the first time in the country.”
This fest is the only annual campus event in the state which has an entire section devoted to astronomy and space sciences. While the fest aims to be the biggest such festival in Kerala, Conscientia is also one of the biggest technical events in the country.
New ideas and models displayed at the Conscientia fest give hopes for the future of the advancement of science in India. Organisers also said that a post-Conscientia workshop will be conducted on the 30th and 31st of this month.
