Guyana won the NACRA (North America and Caribbean Rugby Association) women's Sevens title, beating Trinidad & Tobago in thrilling style in the final, 14-12 with the last play of the tournament.

In doing so, Guyana's women won their third successive regional Sevens title and also matched the achievements of their male counterparts, who earlier took Sevens gold at the CACSO Games.

Guyana's women started in fine fashion with a 46-0 win against Mexico and then incredibly drew 0-0 with Jamaica before seeing off Cayman 46-0 and rivals Trinidad & Tobago 12-0 on day two to reach the semi finals as top seeds.

In the semis T&T edged Jamaica and the defending champions beat St Lucia to book their place in the final, where they had Colette Hope to thank for the winning try late in the game, having come back from 12-0 down.

In the other ranking finals Mexico were 26-5 winners over Cayman to take fifth place and in the 3rd/4th play-off Jamaica defeated St Lucia 22-0 to finish third.

"The quality of the Rugby throughout the NACRA region is growing rapidly and a sound technical base is now ready for new athletes to excel on this kind of stage," commented IRB General Manager for NACRA Tom Jones, who was present at the event.

"The final was the best game of Women's Rugby seen in NACRA. T&T were so disappointed but reflection on their excellent performance will be a source of pride and a good place from which to build towards next year. Congratulations to Guyana!"
