TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -
Filming
will soon begin on Tybee Island for "Spongebob Squarepants 2".
The
recently painted buildings on Broughton Street will soon be SpongeBob's
backdrop for a chase scene in the upcoming sequel. It's a chase that will start
on Tybee Island.
A
meeting was held Friday on Tybee Island that detailed some of the filming
logistics.
The
filming on Tybee will be located on the beach near Tybrisa, and then the
parking lot south of the Pavilion and Pier. There will be some temporary
closures. The locations manager said the impact on parking and beach access
will be minor.
"We
do have a pretty cool pirate and we have a pirate boat that will supposedly come
out of the water drive onto the beach, and then there's a chase scene that will
cut," explained the locations manager for the movie at a public meeting.
The locations manager said that "pretty cool pirate" will be
played by Antonio Banderas.
She said that after the chase scenes are shot, the crew will come
back to Tybee for one more scene.
Those who attended the meeting were more than excited about the
upcoming movie.
"Anytime that something like this happens, especially in the
off season, after the tourists have gone and we're here by ourselves, come on
down and bring your form of excitement to us. And we'll all get a kick out of
this," says Monty Parks, a Tybee resident.
