Seacrest says he'll forever be 'sentimental' about the special.
Ryan Seacrest is going to carry on his New Year's Eve tradition. He'll be working.
Dick Clark Productions announced today that it has extended Seacrest's deal to continue to host and executive produce Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest for a multiyear term. (ABC declined to elaborate on exactly how many years that means. And it appears there are no plans to shorten the title of the annual special.)
The show will again be broadcast on ABC on Dec. 31.
Seacrest has been involved with the show since December 2005, when he joined Dick Clark for the New Year's Eve special as a co-host.
When the American Idol host rang in 2013, it was his first time going solo. Clark died in April 2012.
Seacrest says in the announcement that he will "forever be both sentimental and grateful" about the show, and looks forward to carrying on "Dick's vision" to create "new traditions and fun moments that only live television can deliver."
ABC says 2013's show was the most-watched New Year's Eve special, drawing 22.6 million viewers.
