Pulp by Mike Palermiti | 2013-10-29
Macro

I obtained a slide of wood pulp that started out as a slurry mesh, and then was dyed green to improve contrast for imaging purposes. I used the Nex 7 at ISO 200 for this 1/30 second exposure. The subject was back illuminated by a diffuse white source produced by using a high grade of white opal glass that acts as a perfect diffuser across the frame size of the Nex 7 camera (like the Nikon DX format). The lens used was the Yasuhara Nanoha 4.5 X super macro at F/2.9 (max aperture). Since the slide is positioned accurately at the true focus of the lens/camera assembly, this image was taken hand-held, since there is no differential movement possible between the subject and the lens . If I where to quickly move the system as I took the image, only the illumination level would be effected.

I had to share this one, I have been working in Lytham St Anne's over the last few weeks and when I have had chance been taking photos around the pier. I took this one this evening and could see two quite distinctive faces in the sky, I haven't altered the image just made it more pronounced.

The Big Bang # 8 by Jean Boulay | 2013-10-29
Abstract

I did this using the painting with light method. It was taken in my kitchen sink, using red food dye and running water. I had to play with it a bit but in the end, I thought it could indeed represent the big bang. Comments are welcome.

Danube by Sebastian Klamt | 2013-10-29
Landscape

Searching through my 35mm negatives, I came across the film I did 2 years ago near Regensburg. When going for a walk with my wife and my brother in law after lunch, we reached the river Danube and this idyllic scenery! I used Kodak Tmax 400 film at this time, just right for any light conditions, unfortunately the 35mm stripes always have 36, or 24 frames, that's one reason why I prefer 6x6 medium format. I've read a lot about zone-system by Ansel Adams, and I think I've understood quite a lot although being self- educated, but you can't do F+2/F-2-development on 36 images! Here I used a Heliopan orange filter due to great skies. First I only corrected 1 F/stop, not enough for this filter. As a precaution I made a second image with a correction of 2 F/stops, the one you can see here! In digital times, it is so much more comfortable to have an immediate review of the result. But nothing can beat the feeling of developing the treasures from the last trip, slowly in HC110. Scan was done with an Epson Perfection V500. Please tell me what you think!
