Randy Wittman on Otto Porter: ‘I don’t know who he is’

Otto Porter has been listed as day-to-day since suffering a hip flexor injury in mid September. He hasn’t been able to practice with the team, and last week Porter said that the pain is keeping him from playing.

“It still hurts,” he told Michael Lee. ”I’ve got to heal. It’s not healed yet. That’s the only thing keeping me from getting out there on the court. I just got to rest and take time to heal.”

When Wittman was asked at that time for an update on Porter, he didn’t have much of an answer.

“I don’t have any idea,” coach Randy Wittman said at the time. “I think he’s getting another look when we get back from the doctor so hopefully we’ll have an update Monday.”

There’s no timetable for Porter’s return, and in a call with the Junkies on 106.7 The Fan on Tuesday, coach Randy Wittman continued his pattern of not knowing things.

“I don’t know who he is and have not had a chance to coach him yet,” Wittman said, when asked his opinion of the Wizards rookie . “He’s not been able to step on the floor one day yet.”

As far as when Porter will see the court, Wittman didn’t know that, either.

“Well I’d like to know that, too,” Wittman said, when asked about Porter’s return. “If you guys have any inside information on that, let me know.”

Wittman admitted during the call that Porter wasn’t even able to shoot standing still, but says despite that fact, he doesn’t think the injury is more serious than is being reported.

“I mean it’s a lingering thing, a hip flexor thing is, you know, it’s just something, it takes time,” Wittman said. “He’s frustrated with it. We just gotta be patient and let this thing heal so it’s not a thing that lingers throughout the season. You know, it’s disappointing, but I know he’s disappointed so we just have to be patient with that, and hopefully hear soon and we can get him out on the floor.”
