'Lo and behold, Bleach wank has returned!
The third artbook unmasked has been released, and according to some mice in wank_report, a pet theory brewed in Bleach Asylum has been jossed with a vengeance!
Before we start, some backstory on why this is so wanky:
So years ago in the Bleach fandom, someone took it upon himself to theorize about when and why the hougyoku (basically, the series's Mag Guffin) was placed inside Rukia's body. The gist of is that Aizen placed it inside of her as a baby because ~she has the purest soul in all of the Soul Society~. The reasoning for her soul being so pure was that her zanpkuto was pure white and considered the most beautiful ice and snow element sword. (Unfortunately, this theory was originally posted on the now-defunct Bleach Forums.) From there is was somehow worked out that her pure soul meant something, giving Rukia fans hope that she would become a main focus of the plot when this was brought up.
It soon became a hotly debated topic, because the manga was so vague as to when it was placed inside of her. The rabid Rukia fans naturally sticking to their story, while other fans thinking it's a little bit too much of a gambit, played out beautifully on Bleach Asylum. (Unfortunately the OP deleted her first post, but it's suggested to read anything she posts for a glimpse of how adamant fans were about this.)
So OF COURSE, when the new databook comes out and reveals that it was placed in Rukia's gigai some time at the end of the first chapter of the manga (when the story was just starting), things do not go well.

- debbiechan feels betrayed and needs the weekend to be okay with the news
Inuhanyou speaks up and tries to reason by stating the Kubo trolls all the time, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he's "retconning" this, and jilted lover deebiechan is not happy with this.
"The difference is that the deal with Inoue and Chad was dealt with in the manga proper--what's confusing here is that this seems like a throwaway--in a databook. It's a pretty big deal. Looking at the page it really does seem like an editorial mistake because it's a huge plot point and it's pretty horrifyingly stupid to retcon something this big so casually in a book this way.
Yes, Kubo isn't a consistent plot-maker. Kubo moves in and around the lines but this is bigger than suddenly making Yammy a formidable opponent so we can occupy some characters so the plot can scurry along without them. This speaks to a lot of manga clues that were written out for years and Kubo's own words in interview. The nonchalance with the way this (apparent) retcon takes place is really aggravating--never mind the reasons why it's happening.
The dissonance with the tender care Kubo wrote Ulquiorra's chapter versus this information being plopped right there on this page just tells me something is really wrong. I can't process it. It's just... wrong."
Cue many, many more pages of fans not taking it well when their shit got Joss'ed. Fun, fun, fun.
There has been some more wank on bleachness about Orihime's latest apparitions, but that one is... not so funny. It involves ableism, so I may throw it into unfunny_fandom instead. ETA: Posted here, check at your own risk.
PS: No one cares about Bleach wank anymore! I know it! I'll comment and whine here to prove it! NO ONE CAAAARES!
Son of an ETA: Isn't UlquiHime sooooooo canon even when he's ded, u gaiz?
Grandchild of an ETA: Ulquiorra's death is confirmed. Hilarity keeps ensuing.
