MONDAY
Day of the Dead altar

Before it's taken down, check out the Mexican Cultural Institute's Day of the Dead altar, which is dedicated to the late Juan Garcia de Oteyza, the institute's former director. The altar is up until Friday, and groups are welcome.

'Nothing's More Interesting Than Reality'

In celebration of FotoWeek DC, the Smithsonian American Art Museum hosts a discussion with photographer Mary Ellen Mark. Mark's work has appeared in LIFE, Rolling Stone and other publications and includes portraiture, photojournalism and advertising photography.

M. Night Shyamalan

You probably know director M. Night Shyamalan for his films "The Sixth Sense," "Signs" and "Lady in the Water." But did you know he's also an author? MSNBC's Chris Matthews will interview the filmmaker at Politics and Prose, and Shyamalan will sign copies of his book "I Got Schooled: The Unlikely Story of How a Moonlighting Movie Maker Learned the Five Keys to Closing America's Education Gap."

'Airplane!'

Global Hallyu Forum 2013: Hallyu Live

If you're a fan of K-Pop or just interested in learning more about Korean pop culture, head to George Washington University for a forum in which speakers - including Billboard columnist Jeff Benjamin - discuss its future and influence in the United States. The event also will feature performances by K-Pop cover group CoCo Avenue and entertainer Dave Yoon.

Neighborhood Toy Store Day

As part of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association's nationwide effort to recognize neighborhood toy stores, Barstons Child's Play stores in the District, Rockville, Arlington and McLean will host activities for children age 5 and older, including face painting, craft projects and more. Free Lego building kits will be given out to children while supplies last.
