A Colorado man allegedly took $500,000 and dumped it into a landfill in an effort to keep his ex-wife from taking any of it from him. On Oct. 29 it was reported that Earl Ray Jones, 52, took his life savings and converted it into gold. He then did the unthinkable -- he threw it all away.
"Damn right I did [it]. We say that when people are divorcing, they enter a state of temporary insanity. On a scale from 1 to 10, this is my 10," Jones said. He said that he threw the gold away in "multiple trips" but no one saw him do so. The only thing that has been proven in this case was that he visited a metal company -- no one actually knows if he really dumped the dough like he claims.
Interestingly enough (and not the least bit surprising), Jones is due in court next month after allegedly beating his wife and "holding her captive" following an argument about (you guessed it)... money. His then-wife filed for divorce just three weeks later and it seems obvious that he has no intention of giving her a dime. Many believe that he fabricated the story to keep from having to give any of his hard-earned money to his ex... but if he really did do this, that's crazy -- and you can bet there will be some gold diggers (literally) visiting the dump in Colorado Springs.
Jones is currently behind bars. The gold has not been located.
