Tours from Akureyri

This tour is operated for all visitors in Iceland. From self travelers to cruise ship passengers.

From Akureyri we drive across the fjord with a photostop along the way. Then we head on to the Gošafoss (fall of the gods), a spectacular roundshaped waterfall. We stop there for 20 – 30 min.

Gošafoss is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. It is located in the Mżvatn district of North-Central Iceland at the beginning of the Sprengisandur highland road. The water of the river Skjįlfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.

In the year 999 or 1000 the Lawspeaker Žorgeir Ljósvetningagoši made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the Alžingi, Žorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. Žorgeir's story is preserved in Ari Žorgilsson's Ķslendingabók (The Book Of Icelanders).

Named after the waterfall was MS Gošafoss, an Icelandic ship carrying both freight and passengers, that was sunk by a German U-Boat in World War II, resulting in great loss of lives.
We then head back to Akureyri for a sightseeing tour of the town.
