3 must-see covers from CMA performers Lennon and Maisy

Taylor Swift received the Pinnacle Award at Wednesday night’s Country Music Association Awards. The award celebrated Swift’s success in country music and in bringing global recognition to the genre. It’s a major honor to be bestowed on the 23-year-old superstar, who is only the second to win the award. The first was Garth Brooks.

Before Swift received the accolade, pint-sized sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella crooned a sweet (and unique) rendition of Swift’s 2009 hit “You Belong With Me.”

The duo, who star as sisters on ABC’s “Nashville,” are well known for their covers. So we thought we’d use the opportunity of the CMA spotlight to shine a little attention on their previous work.

“Call Your Girlfriend”  – Robyn/Erato

Lennon and Maisy were 12 and 8 respectively when they made this video which racked up more than 21 million views on YouTube. The singers put their own vocal spin on Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” and borrowed rhythmic technique from Swedish group Erato, who first covered the song a cappella with empty tubs as their sole accompaniment. “Pitch Perfect,” I raise you the Stella sisters.

The two also covered Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up,” in a video posted to their YouTube channel. They later performed their rendition for On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

The two performed The Lumineers‘ “Ho Hey” on “Nashville,” and later performed it live at The Grand Ole Opry.

And in another (the ultimate?) display of country music cred, the two seem to have found a fan in Swift, who smiled alongside the duo in a photo posted to their Twitter account Thursday morning.
