Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis once again is on the team’s inactive list, marking the fifth time this season that the former starter will not play.

The move means that Davis has no shot at being active for 12 games this season, and that will cost him. A clause in his contract had called for Davis, who this past spring re-signed a one-year deal worth $3 million, to be active for 12 games to earn a $500,000 bonus.

Davis had said in an interview this week with 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen and Chad Dukes that he didn’t expect to be active for this game.

When asked if the bonus had anything to do with Davis’s inactivity, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said that he wasn’t even aware of the clause until it was mentioned.

The Redskins are expected to again start Logan Paulsen while also using rookie Jordan Reed frequently. Reed is the second-leading receiver on the team.

Also inactive for the Redskins are quarterback Rex Grossman, running back Chris Thompson, safety Jose Gumbs, who had battled an ankle injury, linebacker Brandon Jenkins, guard Josh LeRibeus and nose tackle Chris Neild.

Jenkins last week played for the first time in four weeks, and veteran backup outside linebacker Darryl Tapp was inactive. But their roles reverse this week.
