Surrender of Japanese Forces in the Ryukyu Islands, 7 September 1945

The remaining Japanese forces in the Ryukyu Islands area surrendered at U.S. Tenth Army Headquarters on Okinawa. The impressive ceremonies took place on 7 September 1945, five days after Japan's formal surrender on board USS Missouri. The Tenth Army Commander, Lieutenant General Joseph W. Stilwell, who officiated at the Okinawa ceremonies, had also attended those on the Missouri.

This page presents photographs of the surrender of the Ryukyu Islands.
