Wipro Lighting launches new range

WIPRO Consumer Care and Lighting Group has announced the launch of a range of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) under the brand name Wipro Smartlite, thereby entering the lucrative market for CFLs.

Its range of retrofit CFLs with integral electronic ballast comes in 11 watts, 15 watts and 20 watts at a price of Rs 225, Rs 250 and Rs 295 respectively.

The CFL market in India is estimated around 18 million with a penetration of two per cent. It is amongst the fastest growing segment in India among different light sources--bulbs, tubelights etc.

Based on this growth rate, the market is estimated to reach 50 million in the next five years with a penetration of six per cent. This would than will be in line with the CFL penetration in countries like Europe (8 per cent), US (6 per cent) and China ( 8 per cent).

Wipro Lighting, part of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting group - a business unit of Wipro Ltd, has presence in branded retail market of toilet soaps, haircare soaps, hydrogenated cooking oil (vanaspati), baby care products and lighting products.

Wipro Smartlite CFL fluorescent light has several benefits over the traditional electrical bulbs and tubelights. They can be plugged into existing bulb holders preempting the use of additional fittings.

Compared to a regular bulb, CFLs consume only about 20 per cent of energy for the same amount of light output. They have flicker free instant start even in low voltages, according to a company communique.
