Rams Waiting On Duo's Fitness

Posted on: Wed 18 Apr 2012

Derby County duo Tom Naylor and Jamie Ward will have their fitness assessed over the next few days ahead of Saturday's trip to Portsmouth.

Injury forced the pair off the pitch early in Tuesday's 2-0 loss at Cardiff City, immediately making them doubts for the weekend trip to Fratton Park in the penultimate game of the season.

Naylor was replaced at half-time by fit-again John Brayford after feeling some tightness in his hamstring in the closing minutes of the first-half at Cardiff City Stadium, while Ward picked up a dead-leg and was replaced early in the second half by Steven Davies.

Manager Nigel Clough said: "We'll see how they both are in the next few days; but we're hopeful they'll be available on Saturday.

"There was no point risking them once we knew they had problems and it made sense to get them off as quickly as possible to prevent further damage.

"We'd like to have them available on Saturday, but it's a case of wait and see at the moment."

Midfielder Ben Davies missed the Cardiff game after picking up a hamstring injury against Middlesbrough last weekend and Clough added: "Ben's been in for treatment in the early part of this week and hopefully he'll be back in contention for Portsmouth."
