NBA.com Rookie Ladder

The Rookie Ladder is a free-flowing, constantly updated chart that ranks the 2013-14 rookies. If a rookie plays well, he climbs the Ladder. Play poorly, and he'll slide down a rung ... or two or three. The rankings are updated by NBA.com's Drew Packham. If you have an issue or have a question or comment, send Drew an e-mail. Oladipo's NBA Learning Curve

Nov. 20 -- It's only been 10 games, but Orlando's Victor Oladipo is clearly struggling with finding his comfort zone running the point.

Oladipo, the No. 2 pick out of Indiana, has been up or down in the early going, showing flashes of his talent and flashes of his youth.

He has scored in double-digits in eight of the 10 games, averaging 11.7 points (second among rookies) on 38.9 percent shooting (37.5 percent on 3s). He's also getting 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 25.5 minutes per game, all coming off the bench.

But he has also struggled with turnovers, racking up 4.0 per game, most among rookies (Michael Carter-Williams is second at 3.0 per game). Most recently, Dallas hounded Oladipo into nine turnovers in the Mavs' 108-100 win on Saturday.

"It's tough being who he is right now," teammate Jameer Nelson told the Orlando Sentinel. "He's the No. 2 pick coming to a new situation and a different level of basketball and is asked to do something that he's never done and play the point guard position. For him, he has a lot of people in his ear, and I'll pick and choose my spots when I say things to him because of that."

Having Nelson -- who has averaged 2.2 turnovers in his 10-year career -- around should help the 21-year-old make the adjustment.

"Everything's correctable, so I've just got to stay positive," Oladipo said. "[The Dallas game] was just me trying to make plays that aren't there. I've got to simplify it, really. It's easier said than done. But once I realize how to do that, then it's going to be better for me."

The Magic know it's a learning process for Oladipo, who played three seasons at IU (and mostly off the ball), so they're willing to take the bad with the good as the team rebuilds.

1
Michael Carter-Williams : PHILADELPHIA 76ERS

Carter-Williams hasn't played since Nov. 11 -- a loss to the Spurs in which he scored just eight points on 2-for-11 shooting -- as he's been dealing with an injury to the arch of his left foot. The Sixers have gone 1-3 in that span and Tony Wroten has filled in admirably while the rookie recovers. The Sixers say the injury isn't serious, so we should see MCW back on the court soon. -- Nov. 20

2
Victor Oladipo : ORLANDO MAGIC

As mentioned above, Oladipo has struggled with turnovers, but that hasn't hurt his playing time, especially in crunch time. In the nine-TO game, Oladipo played down the stretch while a healthy Jameer Nelson watched from the bench, something Jacque Vaughn says will likely continue. "He'll continue to learn and grow from it, and that's a reason why he had an opportunity to be in the fourth quarter," Vaughn told the Orlando Sentinel. "Like I've said before, there's no simulation for that in practice to be within four with six minutes to go and have the chance to lead his teammates." -- Nov. 20

3
Nate Wolters : MILWAUKEE BUCKS

The Bucks have lost five straight, but Wolters continues to impress with his steadiness while seeing big minutes. Wolters admits he hasn't been looking to score like he did in college (he averaged 22.3 points his senior season at South Dakota State), but coach Larry Drew is more than happy with the rookie's 4.6 assist-to-turnover ratio (2nd best in NBA). "He has done a phenomenal job taking care of the basketball," Drew said. "I know he's capable of scoring. ... Right now the focus is to get him acclimated to what we do and running our club, keeping us organized, getting us into our sets." -- Nov. 20

4
Ben McLemore : SACRAMENTO KINGS

Coming off a string of three disappointing games in which he scored 14 point on 5-for-20 shooting, McLemore had one of his best games Tuesday night, scoring 19 points to help spark the Kings past the Suns. McLemore was 4-for-10 from 3-point land and pulled down five rebounds in his 34 minutes of action. McLemore's been hit or miss this season, but when he finds his groove, it's clear he can put up big numbers. -- Nov. 20

5
Kelly Olynyk : BOSTON CELTICS

Olynyk has struggled a bit in the early going finding his shot, especially from beyond the arc and with his spot up jumper. Through Tuesday, the 7-footer is 4-for-20 (20 percent) on 3-pointers and 2-for-13 from mid-range. Olynyk isn't a typical 7-footer in that his ability to step out and face up keeps his defenders off guard, so he'll need to start hitting at a higher rate from outside in order to open up his ability to get into the lane. -- Nov. 20

6
Vitor Faverani : BOSTON CELTICS

Faverani leads all rookies in rebounding (6.1 per game), thanks in part to a 14-rebound showing in his return to the starting lineup Saturday. The Brazilian also scored nine points and blocked four shots (also first among rookies at 1.5 per game) in 27 minutes of the 106-88 loss to Minnesota. It was Faverani's most well-rounded game since Nov. 1 when he had 12 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks. He clearly can produce when given the minutes and a challenge (like he had in the Wolves' big frontcourt), so he may stick around the starting lineup again. -- Nov. 20

7
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope : DETROIT PISTONS

With Chauncey Billups out with tendinitis in his knee, Caldwell-Pope has started the last three games, and coach Mo Cheeks may keep him there even after Billups returns. In Tuesday's win over the Knicks, KCP tied his scoring high with 13 points, going 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. "He does what he's expected to do," Cheeks told the Detroit News. "Energy, defending, getting up and down the floor. I'm never surprised at the things he does. Knocking down the shots is a bonus. The way he defends and runs the floor is something he's done since day one." -- Nov. 20

8
Steven Adams : OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER

Adams has had a fairly quiet week and slips a few spots after surging last week. Over his last five games, he's averaging just 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds while still getting 1.2 blocks. Maybe that 17-point, 10-rebounds performace 12 days ago got me a little too excited, but I still think Adams is the better option in the frontcourt and deserves to see more playing time. -- Nov. 20

9
Tim Hardaway, Jr. : NEW YORK KNICKS

After joining the Ladder last week at No. 8, Hardaway had a solid week before putting up a goose egg Tuesday night in Detroit. In the four games previous, Hardaway had averaged 10.3 points while hitting at a 52 percent clip from the field and 54.5 from beyond the arc (6-for-11). After a slow start to the season, the Michigan product seems to be getting more comfortable getting his shot off, but the return of J.R. Smith has cut into his playing time a bit and could hurt his status on the Ladder. -- Nov. 20

10
Robbie Hummel : MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES

Hummel joins the ranks thanks to a solid week in which he gave the Wolves a boost off the bench. After playing 21 minutes total through the Wolves' first seven games, he's averaged 21.1 minutes in his last four, putting up 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field. The 6-foot-8 forward may not stick around the ladder with fluctuating minutes, but coach Rick Adelman likes what he sees from the Purdue product. "He's always in the right spot," Adelman said. "He understands how to play the game, and he doesn't force anything. He stays within himself." -- Nov. 20
