Tony Award nominee Brian Murray and Sam Waterston will star in the U.S. premiere of late playwright Simon Gray's The Old Masters at the Long Wharf Theatre prior to a Broadway run in 2011.

John Martello and Elliot Martin will produce the Broadway run of the 1937-set work that premiered in London in 2004 under the direction of playwright Harold Pinter. Michael Rudman will direct the U.S. production, which is set to premiere at Long Wharf Jan. 19-Feb. 13, 2011. Dates of a Broadway run have not been announced.

The Old Masters, according to Long Wharf, "takes place under the menacing shadow of Mussolini in 1937. Two aging lions joust over the value of art and money. Just outside Florence, famous art historian Bernard Berenson (Waterston) and notorious art dealer Joseph Duveen (Murray) edge toward an explosive final encounter as their turbulent relationship erupts on stage."

Additional casting and creative duties will be announced at a later date.

Murray received Tony Award nominations for his in The Crucible, The Little Foxes and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Waterston most recently appeared in Athol Fugard's Have You Seen Us? at Long Wharf last season. He is best known for his work on "Law & Order."

Single tickets for The Old Masters at Long Wharf will go on sale Aug. 9. Visit LongWharf.org.

The Long Wharf Theatre is located at 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven, CT.
