The Trevor
Project is honoring Ellen DeGeneres with its prestigious
Trevor Life Award at its December Cracked Xmas Event in Los
Angeles.
The Trevor
Project, a nonprofit that operates a suicide prevention
hotline for queer teenagers, is giving DeGeneres its Trevor
Life Award for her participation in the Academy
Award–winning short film Trevor, which
inspired the Trevor Project.
"Her insightful,
heartfelt, and humorous words helped draw viewers to
that initial broadcast, some of whom began calling the
Trevor Helpline," said Charles Robbins, the Trevor
Project's executive director, in a release. "Just as
important, Ellen's groundbreaking career and her
historic extremely public and truly courageous coming-out
process continues to inspire LGBT youth and demonstrate that
their lives do have value."
At Trevor's
December 2 awards ceremony, the Trevor Hope Award will also
be handed out—this year to media giant Clear Channel
Communications Inc. (The Advocate)
