Click the video above to watch a promotional video on Fair Play featuring LTA Fair Play Ambassador Jonny Marray.
Fair Play in tennis has always been an important value and the LTA and Tennis Foundation are committed to ensuring that the tennis environment is fair, open and inclusive at every level in the sport.
Enjoy
Respect
These values apply equally to players, parents, coaches, officials and volunteers and cover all tennis activities, whether it is a competition, a friendly hit at a local court or a match you’re watching.
Supporting the values are individual Fair Play pledges for each group of people in the sport.
Make your pledge:
We will continue to promote the Fair Play values through our Places to Play, tennis workforce, volunteers and at competitions.
We created the Fair Play values as a 2010 Competition survey demonstrated that player/parental behaviour and cheating were areas of concern that needed to be addressed. Tennis people also identified Fair Play as the most important attitude/value people involved in British tennis should follow.
The following improvements have been put in place to improve the competition experience:
These proactive steps have started to address the broad area of improving Fair Play in tennis and at competitions. The next phase of the Fair Play project is to communicate the Fair Play values to British Tennis Members and embed them within every tennis environment. This approach will complement the continuing improvements made in the discipline processes and promote a positive set of values under which competition and the sport should be enjoyed.
On 1 September 2013, the LTA Tournament Regulations were replaced by the LTA Competition Regulations. There have been a number of additions and changes with most aspects of the Regulations being updated and amended to some extent.

Are you committed to enjoying tennis and respecting everyone involved. Are you passionate about improving the tennis experience for everyone? Do you believe in Fair Play and can explain to other players, parents, coaches and volunteers why it is important? If this sounds like you read more about the Fair Play County Ambassador and the Role Description. Then contact your county outlining your interest and why you believe you are well suited to the role.
89% of BTM's believe tennis is played in a positive and fair spirit. Previous research has shown that Fair Play is a really important ‘attitude’ needed within tennis and we will continue to improve the competition environment under the Fair Play banner.
The LTA and Tennis Foundation will use Enjoy.Respect as the two overarching values to represent Fair Play and will work in close partnership with referees, coaches, parents, players and clubs to explain what that means to people involved with British tennis.
The Fair Play values are a reminder to everyone of what our sport is about and the attitude that should be adopted when participating.

This system of recording late withdrawals and code violations has been operational since September 2011. An automated e-mail is sent when withdrawal points or code violation points are recorded against a player.
Late withdrawals cause disruption to the competition and this system was introduced to support a better competition experience for players, parents and organisers. We realise that players may need to withdraw late for genuine reasons, but the withdrawal points incurred will only become effective if players reach the 10 point threshold within a rolling 12 month period, for an automatic suspension.
These procedures are intended to discipline those who repeatedly abuse the system and disrupt the game for others, not to penalise those who are occasionally obliged to withdraw from competitions
Appeals against the imposition of withdrawal points may be upheld if they have been given as a result of mistaken identity or where it is possible to show exceptional circumstances.
