Iran's Nuclear Program: Iran truthful, in treaty compliance; US/Israel lying, in treaty violation

We hold these Truths to be self-evident...

The title is of this article is alarming, and accurate. It will brief you on:

·        the treaty that manages Iran’s nuclear program,
·        the status of compliance with Iran, the US with the UK and now France, and Israel,
·        analysis for the disinformation delivered by the US, UK, France, Israel.
The treaty in question: The Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT): The Non-Proliferation Treaty[1] (NPT) was designed to limit nuclear weapon development, facilitate availability of nuclear energy, and lead to global nuclear disarmament. The treaty allows any country to develop nuclear material for energy, receive the assistance of the nuclear countries to do so (US, UK, France, Russia, and China), and then be inspected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to verify they do not refine fissionable material beyond energy-grade (3-5%) to weapons-grade (over 85%). To date, no NPT country with a nuclear energy program has developed nuclear weapons. Iran and the US are signatories of NPT. Therefore, the legal and Constitutional US response is to help Iran develop nuclear energy.
Status of compliance: You need three brief paragraphs of history to put the present into context: in 1953, the United States CIA, led by one of President Theodore Roosevelt’s grandsons, initiated a coup in Iran (Operation Ajax[2]) to remove the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh. The Iranian government was understandably dissatisfied with the terms of its contract with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company that allowed British interests to claim 85% of the oil profit from Iran.[3] Iran voted to nationalize the oil industry in 1951 after the British declined to renegotiate the terms. The US-led coup was successful, and the royal monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi,[4] became virtual dictator. Fearing popular reprisal, Pahlavi’s government was supported by the CIA in creating the Iranian SAVAK, a vicious secret police for the Shah’s dictatorial government.[5] We can only assume that the oil revenue sharing agreement with the Shah was acceptable to the US and UK.
Under the Eisenhower administration, the US cooperated with the Shah’s government for the development of Iranian nuclear energy through the “Atoms for Peace” program.[6] President Ford agreed to US full cooperation to help Iran build about two dozen nuclear energy plants. When the Iranian people overthrew the Shah’s government in 1979, the US stopped cooperating. The US backed Iraq in their invasion of Iran in 1980 and throughout the war until 1988, seeking a more US-friendly Iranian government. The US provided Saddam Hussein with chemical and biological weapons to use against Iran that the W. Bush administration later used as justification for invading Iraq.[7] Since 1979, the US has worked to prevent Iran having a nuclear energy program, even under the legal provisions of the NPT, and reneged on a multi-billion dollar contract to deliver nuclear fuel to Iran without refunding Iran’s money.[8]
Therefore, all US administrations since Carter in 1979 have committed lies of omission by not disclosing to the public Iran’s treaty-right to nuclear energy under NPT. US political “leadership” obfuscates the issue with rhetoric of Iran’s “nuclear program” to link energy with weapons.[9] Ironically, the US is in additional violation of NPT by developing new nuclear weapons and threatening to use them rather than work for global disarmament as per treaty terms.[10] The US actions are also in violation of the UN Charter in threatening war.[11]
The UK and France are out of NPT compliance by not assisting Iran for nuclear energy development and then accepting the reasonable terms of full monitoring of nuclear refinement that has had a perfect history for safety and compliance for over 40 years. Israel is not signatory to NPT; they ironically choose what they accuse of Iran: a secret nuclear weapons program estimated at 200 warheads. Israel has also been found by the UN’s Human Rights Council to be in numerous violations of War Crimes against Gaza
The previous three paragraphs are plain vanilla history in conservatively-known content. This means it is encyclopedic and not disputed by government or argued by historians. It should be clear to you that “leadership” from both political parties and mainstream media do not provide the necessary context of history and treaty facts to evaluate the Bush and Obama administrations’ statements threatening war with Iran. Their collective use of the term “nuclear program” is intentionally conflating the two distinct technologies of legal low-grade energy refinement with illegal very high-grade weapons refinement. We could also call it fraud, as it deliberately misinforms.[12]
Iran is in compliance of NPT by having all facilities disclosed and open for IAEA monitoring. On Monday September 21, 2009 Iran disclosed to IAEA per NPT terms of 180 day notification of a new nuclear energy facility that is about 18 months away from operation. For discussion, read here
Analysis: I’ll give you two paragraphs of recent history, then current analysis. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Seymour Hersh, has reported since 2005 that government insiders have disclosed to him that the CIA is presently engaged in covert operations similar to 1953 to overthrow the Iranian government.[13] Hersh, claiming inside White House sources, reported one idea from Vice President Dick Cheney was for the US Navy to build four or five boats that looked like Iranian Naval PT boats, man and arm them with US Navy Seals, then have the Navy Seals attack a US Navy ship off Iran’s coast. The incident would be filmed and used as propaganda to enflame US public opinion for war with Iran.[14] Hersh is the reporter who insiders trusted to report the My Lai Massacre and its cover-up in the Vietnam War, and the Abu Ghraib Torture Scandal in the current Iraq war. Scott Ritter, US former weapons inspector and officer for US Marine Intelligence calls any covert planning and actions by their correct legal name: Acts of War. Ritter states the obvious: the US would never allow Iran to take these actions without calling them Acts of War.[15]
Recently and disturbingly, was the US Air Force admission that they “mistakenly” transported six live nuclear warheads attached to ready-to-launch cruise missiles to the US military base that is the jump-off for US supplies to Middle East Operations. This could be a veiled threat of nuclear war against Iran rather than explained by the long chain of continuous “mistakes” required for such an event to occur.[16] Nuclear weapons are protected by detailed protocol and lethal force; they go nowhere by mistake and had a 50 year perfect record for their handling.
President Obama’s UN speech on Wednesday September 23 was full of lies of omission and commission. He claimed Iran was “in pursuit of nuclear weapons” without proof and all existing reports and IAEA inspections confirming Iran is only in pursuit of their legal right to nuclear energy. Mr. Obama continued: "But if the governments of Iran and North Korea choose to ignore international standards, if they put the pursuit of nuclear weapons ahead of regional stability and the security and opportunity of their own people, if they are oblivious to the dangers of escalating nuclear arms races in both East Asia and the Middle East," he said, adding, "Then they must be held accountable." President Obama then asked the world leaders to demonstrate to Iran and North Korea that international law is not an "empty promise." "We must insist that the future not belong to fear," he said.
President Obama is a lying sack of spin, along with the Republican leadership for their silence in the face of these transparent lies. The US is out of compliance of the international standards of NPT, not Iran. The US and Israel threaten regional stability, security, and opportunity for Iran. The US is unaccountable, holding NPT as an empty promise, and actively instilling fear for the future.
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told Reuters: "I think the fact that such brutal thugs, such barbaric dictators like Ahmadinejad, speak in front of the world assembly is a real low point in the annals of the United Nations." Israel’sForeign Minister Avigdor Lieberman claimed "without a doubt" the Islamic Republic is pursuing nuclear weapons, and, "Without wasting time, we must work towards the overthrow of the mad regime of Teheran.”
Secretary of State Clinton piled-on the propaganda, stating Iran must prove their program is peaceful, despite all evidence stating that it is and none suggesting otherwise. President Obama and Secretary of Defense, along with members of Congress, also threatened a military response to IranFrench President Sarkozy: "More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map," he continued, referring to Israel. Sarkozy repeats the lie that Iran threatened Israel.
Iran has responded by demanding proof that they have been deceptive or out of compliance in any way. They also assert that the US, UK, and France are and have been out of compliance with NPT for over 40 years. They did not mention Iran’s replacing the dollar for the Euro as their oil reserve currency that might explain much about the US sharp response.
In conclusion of this analysis, res ipsa loquitur, the facts speak for themselves. The US is attempting to deceive their people through political and media manipulation to believe Orwellian claims exactly opposite from the truth. The UK, France and Israel are accomplices in this criminal deception.
If you wish to continue this history of lies to inflict war upon the innocent, and damn your allegiance to the US Constitution, rule of law, and American values, believe the transparently false rhetoric that bombards us. If you choose to build a brighter future of human cooperation, especially those of you with an oath to defend and protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC, then you must tell the simple truth concerning this understandable issue of NPT. Call out lies as lies. Refuse to accept illegal orders of aggression based on known lies; that is the duty of Patriots and the accepted legal conclusion from the Nuremberg Principles: Principle IV states, "The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him." Saying one was just following orders is no excuse under the law.
My recommended policy response because of the magnitude of the criminal lies and liars is Truth and Reconciliation.

Well done. Almost all MSM coverage of Iran is spurious. Hersh (and many others) reported that $400,000,000 was spent under Bush II on destabilizing the Iranian Government. This has bought nothing but a sack of disinformation and lies - mostly channeled through MEK.

The Iranian Government is not ideal if one doesn't favor a mix of religion and politics but, compared with the Bush administration it is moral purity personified.

It seems Obama's administration is merely a new face on an old and cancerous body.

Articles like this are TOKENS... The Examiner IS a propaganda machine for Israel and American Jews.

Articles like this are dwarfed by the larger effort - of phony terror plots, sting operations, and the general Islamophobia we are fed by the enemies within.

I want trials for TREASON. this country is under occupation by a foreign government. Their agents control our media, government elections and foreign policy. I'm tired of fighting wars for Jews.

Georgann, I agree that the lies that caused US invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan are treason; they resulted in attack on US troops and our collective loss of $3 trillion + in long-term costs. I make my case in this article: US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are traitorous, un-American, and cowardly

  • Mike Chapman (LA Populist Examiner) 4 years ago

Excellent work, Carl. And thanks for referencing everything. I'm going to post this on my own forum.

The mainstream media has become completely unhinged on this issue. They think if they keep repeating lies often enough, everyone will believe them. Even PBS (Plutocratic Broadcasting Service) has gotten into this propaganda game.

  • Floyd R. Turbo 4 years ago

Complete and utter bullshit, Mr. Herman. You say nothing about Iran's involvement in terrorism and how it has helped insurgents kill US soldiers in Iraq. No mention about Iran's deception concerning its nuclear program. Iran still refuses to answer all the IAEA's questions; the head of the IAEA has said Iran's concealment of its new nuclear facility is illegal. Evidence indicates Iran has worked on developing nuclear warheads. I guess you know more than the intelligence services of the US, Britian, France, Germany and Israel.

How you can defend a regime that shoots down its own people in the streets like animals is mind-boggling.

  • yaakovUriyah 4 years ago

After the 911 attack on Iraq a nation that had nothing to do with 911 and even offered to capture the perpetrators, I'm sorry I just can't believe anything this government says anymore. The most scary thing about this whole lie is it seem the majority of the American people forgot they were lied to and our sons, daughters, fathers and mothers are still dying for this lie.this just goes to show me that America is at it's end and we all will meet a terrible faith in these end....before destuction ,one first go mad...this is what's happening to America....GOD HELP US BECAUSE WE WILL NEED IT.

  • Carl Herman (LA County Nonpartisan Examiner) 4 years ago

Thank you so much for polarizing our choice! Let’s start by defining “bullshit” as bare allegations without factual documentation. You make several claims without proof, that are falsified by the documentation in the article. How is Iran involved in terrorism and how is the two US invasions not Wars of Aggression? How has Iran been deceptive when they’ve followed the law, and how is the US not deceptive and in violation? What questions have Iran refused to answer? What “concealment” when Iran disclosed a year ahead of treaty terms, and how is that illegal? What evidence that Iran has worked on nuclear warheads, and how do you respond to the US and Israel doing so?

Floyd, put-up or shut-up if you want to say you’re American working under the limits of law and the US Constitution. The “intelligence” was false and known to be false at the time it was told for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Read my other work to verify. You are being a heel-clicking party believer, Floyd.

  • Floyd R. Turbo 4 years ago

Why did Mohammed El-Barardei, head of the IAEA, say this week that Iran's construction of its new nuclear facility violated the law? Who is Ahmad Vahidi? He is wanted for involvement in the bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994 that killed 85 people. He was recently named Minister of Defense by Iran's president Ahmadenijad. Who was Neda Agha-Soltan? She was an Iranian woman shot down by Ahmadenijad's security forces during a protest against Iran's rigged elections.

Reports of Iran's crimes and nuclear weapons research are as close as the New York Times website but I don't think you are interested, Mr. Herman. You would rather apologize for this tyrannical regime.

You have every right to denounce your country but what would hsppen to you, Mr. Herman, if you wrote similarly virulent articles against the Iranian regime while sitting at a computer in Tehran?

  • Carl Herman (LA County Nonpartisan Examiner) 4 years ago

    Floyd, welcome back!

ElBaradei refers to voluntary protocol Iran declared in 2007 they would not follow when the US didn’t comply with NPT to help Iran rather than oppose them to develop nuclear energy. ElBaradei claims that the voluntary protocol is still binding; Iran disagrees. Vahidi’s case has an involved history; Israel is perfectly capable of requesting extradition upon probable cause. But this is a separate issue, like Israel being found of probable War Crimes in Gaza, Neda’s death, and Iran’s elections.

Official US intelligence reports are unanimous that there is zero evidence of Iran building nuclear weapons. Where is your evidence for this, Floyd? Your belief that the NYT has something somewhere on their website that you blindly follow? Oh, Floyd! I’m interested; bring it on, baby!

Floyd, I’m standing for the rule of law. NPT allows Iran monitored nuclear energy, true? The US, by law, is to support and help this process, true? Iran CANNOT be attacked by law, yes?

  • Floyd R. Turbo 4 years ago

I'm sure if Argentina (not Israel) asked for the extradition of Mr. Vahidi, Iran would comply. Yeah, right! US intel says that Iran stopped working on nuclear weapons a few years ago, but they were working on them, which Iran denies. And other intel services disagree with the US. We have reason to be very worried about Iran.

Let's cut to the chase, Mr. Herman. Who was Neda? And how can you defend a regime that kills its own citizens when they are protesting a rigged election?

  • Floyd R. Turbo 4 years ago

The Iranian regime's cheating in its own elections and its brutal suppression of its own people are central issues because this has revealed the true nature of brutes like Ahmadenijad and Khamenei. They are not the innocents you present them to be. Ahmadenijad says Iran is not interested in nuclear weapons? He also says Iran has no gay people. How can anyone believe him, outside of this webpage?

And how can you apologize for such a regime?

  • Carl Herman (LA County Nonpartisan Examiner) 4 years ago

Ah, ah, ah, Floyd! Can you engage in civil conversation on the issue at hand of NPT? I've answered your questions, now you answer mine on the subject of NPT.

  • Floyd R. Turbo 4 years ago

You say Iran is in compliance with NPT. The IAEA and the UN Security Council say Iran is not. Iran's history of deception and defiance is not the history of a peaceful nation. I trust the judgment of the UN Security Council far more than the mullahs of Iran, Ahmadenijad -- or yours.

  • Floyd R. Turbo 4 years ago

Your analysis is rooted in a deep anti-Americanism. In your view, America is the villain, therefore America's enemies, i.e. Iran, are heroes. You cling to the delusion that America is a criminal nation and promote the contemptible fantasy that America was even behind 9/11. So your analysis of the Iranian situation is completely predictable.

Your line of reasoning might be a hit with your few internet followers, Ron Paul supporters and Ahmadenijad admirers, but thankfully most people are sensible and don't buy what you are peddling. It's great to live in a nation that allows freedom of speech, unlike Iran. Good day, Mr. Herman.

  • Carl Herman (LA County Nonpartisan Examiner) 4 years ago

I’m responsible for civic participation for my nation, not for what Iran does. You are standing for unlimited government in fear of what others might do; holding them to a lower standard than “endowed with inalienable rights.” The US is in violation of NPT; Iran is in compliance.

Finally, Floyd, claims of fact are objective and independently verifiable, not something to view as a “line of reason,” compare to what people FEEL is “sensible,” or “buying” and “peddling.” This is the point that, thankfully, most people receive from our interchange: reality can be verified. You argue that you need political leaders to tell you what NPT means. People like the millions who stand with me think for ourselves and hold our US Constitution as the Founding Fathers did: an honor we must defend and protect against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

  • Carl Herman (LA County Nonpartisan Examiner) 4 years ago

NPT is understandable to elementary school students, Floyd. Any nation who wants nuclear energy is welcome to have it with the help of the nuclear nations in exchange for IAEA monitoring and their pledge for no pursuit of nuclear weapons. You trust what you read and hear because while you have the capacity to think for yourself, you do not. The US and CIA violently overthrew Iran’s democratically-elected government in 1953 and installed a vicious dictator; it is our history of deception you need to embrace rather than surrendering your critical thinking to people like Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama. Thank God we still teach critical thinking in schools, Floyd. You advocate the political philosophy of following orders of the Leader.

Americanism is government limited by the US Constitution and based upon the values in the preamble of the Declaration of Independence, which is what I write and stand for, my friend. More…

As far as I'm concerned Iran has the right to develop nuclear energy for its energy needs as it signed the NPT. Israel has no such right to develop nuclear energy as it is not a signatory. This information never appears in the corporate media which relies instead on Israeli military intelligence lies. I would prefer to read an article like Carl Herman's on the issue of Iran's nuclear energy program than lies peddled by a prejudiced source whose country's agenda is to dominate the Middle East and grab more territory for itself.

Israel, which has atomic weapons, simply does not want another nation in the region to develop them, so as not to get in the way of Israel's hegemony. Iran would not be dumb enough to initiate an attack on Israel even if Iran had atomic weapons, and would have no motivation to do so. Ahmadenijad has been widely misquoted by the Zionist controlled media as to wiping Israel off the map.

The accepted framing of this debate is: is Iran or is it not developing these weapons. There is no evidence that they are. My own view though is that, as a sovereign nation among other nations that have that capability, Iran should go ahead and establish a nuclear capability without interferance. That would eliminate Israel's hegemony in the region which would be a good thing for peace in the region and the world.

Floyd, your inability to see past the rhetoric, propoganda, and agenda driven statements is appaling.
Many of the things you atribute to Iran have also happened in the US under your "Democratic" system, like vote rigging, and illegal presidents; this you choose to ignore.

    Hey Floyd,

I am a great American, lineage to the Mayflower, pay several hundred thousand in taxes last year, family man. BUT, America or some rogue element therein (CIA, JCOS, NSA) did allow 9/11 to happen and even rigged the building further. You cannot fell a 102 story building in 42 minutes from a fire or we would not build them nor could you afford to insure them. Quit assuming all is as they present it and investigate. 9/11 was the "New Pearl Harbor" that they needd to get fools like you to support their anit-American moves. God bless us all.

  • B-Ren 4 years ago

In responce to David's comment. I understand what you are saying about how it is difficult to concieve the fact that we're denying Iran to construct a nuclear powerplant but there are signs that speak otherwise. For one, why hide a "powerplant" INSIDE a mountain. I know we have a few in the US but they're for the waste left over. Two, and just by coincidence they decide to test fire rockets that can reach Israel? And finally, what does that election tell you about. It says everything. The religious heirarchy put Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in power. It only makes sence when you look at it from a broad point of view. You have a Shiite country ruled by Muslim extremeists who abhore Israel. I thik that spells it out enough. Oh, by the way, I'm a high school student.

  • Carl Herman (LA County Nonpartisan Examiner) 4 years ago

B-Ren: with respect, you’re missing the point. Iran is free to construct nuclear power plants under IAEA inspection. Qum, the location, is among the most holy Shia sites which might dissuade the West, fortification against attack is prudent, and are you arguing Iran should stay militarily weak even after the US supplied Iraq in a War of Aggression from 1980-1988? Where is your evidence for Iranian hostility toward Israel? Aren’t all the statements showing Israel hostility to Iran? One of the most important laws to understand is war is illegal unless under attack. Abhor war, I suggest, B-Ren.

  • B-Ren 4 years ago

WHat is my evidence that Iran has such hostility towards Israel? Well, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad anounced that Israel has no right to exist. Plus there is also the fact that Iran is funding Palestinian groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Muslim Brotherhood, etc. Now, Syria is in a tight situation where they are making up their minds over whether to side with the United States and cutting off the supply shipments to the previously mentioned groups or siding with Iran. There was actually a New York Times article that I belive is very good that speaks this whole idea of what Iran is doing to their fellow Muslim countries. (Ibelieve it was on Oct. 1 is you're interested). But above all, Iran signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty so unless this is actually a nuclear powerplant, Iran has just commited political suicide.

    Kind of like Nazi Germany.

    Why is that so confusing?

The Founders would be so proud of what we have achieved.
