Star Wars: Battlefront will not be ‘Battlefront 3′, but something new

DICE are taking pains to stress that the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront (watch the teaser here) will be a proper game rather than a re-skinned Battlefield.

EA’s Patrick Soderlund confirmed that the game would be DICE’s own take on Battlefront. “This is DICE’s interpretation of what Battlefront should be,” he said. “That’s the best description you can have.”

“There are absolutely things in the previous Battlefront games that you’ll recognise and remember, but DICE wants to put its own flavour on it. That’s the only way we can do it. Hence it’s called Star Wars: Battlefront, without a 3 at the end. We want to say it’s something new. But again, it’s going to be very Star Wars and very cool.”

DICE’s Patrick Bach added, “We don’t want Star Wars plus Battlefield, because that would be boring, right?”

I hope Patricks comments at the end of the article were delivered with sarcasm!
I wouldn’t want to read about him getting beaten up in a dark alley over the weekend. :P

I’m glad that it won’t just be a re-skinned Battlefield, however I really loved the old ones style, in fact Battlefront 1 and 2 are still my two favourite shooters. I’m really not sure what to feel about this, but one thing I know for certain is that I will be getting this game, can’t judge it till I have played it after all.

Smart that it’s not just a generic sequel. The BF3 hype train has become massive in the last 8(?) years, and I don’t think BF2 with better graphics would quench the thirst.

One of the rare few EA games I’m excited about lol

Even if it is just ‘battlefield strikes back’ it has potential to be awesome [picturing c4ing the legs of a mobile AT-AT while riding a tauntaun]

Star Wars: Battlefront 2142? Not that that’d be a bad thing, would like to see them go back to BF2142.
