Quarterback Kirk Cousins says he enjoys playing for Coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and believes that is the prevailing sentiment within the Washington Redskins’ locker room.

“I think that a fan has the right to have their opinion,” Cousins said following Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at FedEx Field. “They pay hard-earned money to watch us play and to support our team and they have a right to their opinion. My own personal perspective [is] I absolutely love the Shanahans and believe they’re doing a great job coaching us. I would like to see them still be here. But that’s not my decision to make.”

Shanahan’s coaching tenure with the team appears to be close to ending, according to people familiar with the situation. But Cousins said he thinks Shanahan has strong support among Redskins players.

“My general consensus would be that the players in this locker room enjoy playing for Coach Shanahan and find him to be a great coach,” said Cousins, who replaced starter Robert Griffin III late in Sunday’s defeat. “So I can’t really speak for everyone but that would be my assumption.”
