Netflix will stream Romney documentary ‘Mitt’

Netflix will stream a documentary about 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, the subscription movie and television service announced Monday.

The documentary "Mitt" will premiere on Netflix Jan. 24. The film was directed by Greg Whiteley, a Romney family friend. 

Billed as as having "unprecedented access," Whiteley's film chronicles Romney and his family during his run for the presidency. The film begins in 2008, when Romney made his first bid. It continues though to his concession speech last fall.

Before airing on Netflix, the documentary will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, as part of the "out-of-competition Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections."

As a Politico e-book published last year pointed out, the film caused some internal Romney campaign strife. Some of Romney's advisers cautioned against releasing it for fear it would cause a backlash against the Republican candidate's Mormon faith.
