A half-right, half-wrong snow forecast, and how we can improve
North and west of the Beltway, our forecast for today’s storm of 2-5 inches of snow was spot on. But it failed elsewhere for familiar reasons.

A period of moderate to heavy snow this morning could quickly accumulate on roadways faster than road crews can keep up. After that it gets very cold with mixed precipitation possible this weekend.
Snow likely Tuesday morning, could snarl morning rush hour traffic
A stripe of 2 to 5 inches of snow is possible across the region Tuesday, although we can’t rule out higher or lower amounts.
Weather service issues Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday
We think this watch may be a bit aggressive and that the NWS forecast of 5 or more inches of snow, while possible, isn’t the most likely scenario.
