    • Ottawa Fury names Canadian Marc Dos Santos as head coach

      The 2014 NASL expansion team Ottawa Fury FC has confirmed on Thursday the hiring of former Montreal Impact bench boss Marc Dos Santos as their head coach for their inaugural season.

      Club president John Pugh made the announcement during a video conference.

      Dos Santos, who will turn 36 next week has spent the last two years in Brazil, including stints as Youth Academy coach with Palmeiras and with Desportivo Brasil's U-20 squad.

      Holder of a UEFA coaching licence, Dos Santos led the Montréal Impact to the USL First Division title in 2009, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps in the final.

      He also won a CSL National Division title at the helm of Montreal's affiliate Trois-Rivières Attack in 2007.

      Canadian Soccer News has also learned that former Canadian national team head coach Stephen Hart and former TFC interim head coach Nick Dasovic were interviewed for the position.

        If this isn't an indictement of the Canadian Coaching system, I don't know what is. I guess we have to accept that Canadian coaches who can coach at an international level are extremely rare. The CSA needs to improve its coaching methods to bring us up to the standards of the rest of the world.

        Would have liked to see Dasovic get a chance here. Still a decent hire though. Let's hope they take the FC Edmonton route and give a lot of young Canadians a shot.

        There is no league, therefore no coaching jobs in Canada so there will never be high level coaches in Canada apart a few like Santos.

        Btw, isnt this one hell of a drop going from Brazil to NASL?

        Dos Santos has the advantage of being billingual as well.

        ottawa can look foward to seeing games thrown (toronto 2009) if de santos has personal spite to expell. Unprofessional but my wife said he was good looking

        Not a bad appointment given he's got some international pedigree and success in Canada. Can't wait to see Ottawa take part in the NCC.

        It's good to see Canadian coaches in charge of Canadian teams.

        Next up for pro soccer, Calgary. Since the CSA is doing dick-all to build a Canadian league, they need to drop their silly ban on pro teams joining the NASL or USL-Pro, and do what they can to find someone in Cowtown willing and able to build a local opponent for Edmonton FC.

        Oh and I believe the Fury are revealing their logo tomorrow (Saturday) too; here are the three final possible choices: http://www.ottawafuryfc.com/index.ph...30&newsid=4323

        Personally, I'm not a huge fan of any of them , but prefer the cleanest, shield-style one in the middle as it has some class and less tackiness... hmm, but then they'd stand out from the most of the other NASL logos...

        How about you guys, any thoughts?

        I would prefer to see this team playing on the NSL. Way more people would be willing to watch a game like L.A. Galaxy x Ottawa Fury. And... I heard that by 2015 NSL best teams will qualify to play the Copa Libertadores. That would give us a chance to see in the future something like Ottawa against teams like São Paulo, Boca Juniors and other great South American Football Clubs (just thinking waaaay ahead) ;-)

        What ban is the CSA holding up? It's the USSF that has a quota requiring 75% of the teams of the league to be based in the U.S. (See 1B)
