West Papua Liberation Organization (WPLO) was first established at the University of Paradise Bird's Boarding House Unit II A by some Students, Youth and Young women of West Papua, as the initiative of John Anari, Eng on July 22, 2002 by using the first name of the Youth and Students Association of Indigenous West Papuans (West Papua Indigenous Students and Youth, AWPISY). AWPISY not going well until in 2008 converted into WPIO (West Papua Indigenous Organization) and then changed again into WPLO (West Papua Liberation Organization) in Mansinam island at Church of Lahai Roi on August, 9rd 2009.


WPLO (West Papua Liberation Organization) officially declared simultaneously International Day of Indigenous Peoples (Indigenous Peoples) on August 9, 2009 through an event in Church Worship Lahai Roi Church in Mansinam island by Pastor and it was supported by Mansinam tribe leader Mr. Rumbrawer and Chief Arfak Mountains, Mr. Keliopas Meidodga.


WPLO officially registered as CSOs (Civil Society Organisations) in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (United Nations Economic and Social Council) in December 2010. As well as working together with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (Organization United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights) at the UN Headquarters Geneva, Switzerland. In addition, each year WPLO officially promote the rights of Self-Determination for West Papuan peoples in the United Nations Permanent Forum session on Indigenous Populations (United Nations Permanent on Indigenous Issues) at the United Nations Headquarters New York, United States of America and the General Assembly of the United Nations High Commission for Periodic Human Rights (Universal Periodic Review of UN OHCHR) in Geneva UN Headquarters, Switzerland.
